Leanne Morgan on Good Hang with Amy Poehler

The Hang, in Short

Amy opens with Kristen Johnston, who describes Gen Z as incredibly open and teaching her so much, then adds they "always dress like they have the flu." Amy cracks up. It's perfect. The two bond over smoking on airplanes in the '80s and how their generation was truly feral (drinking from garden hoses, staying out till midnight at six years old). Kristen explains how Chuck Lorre called her about playing Leanne Morgan's sister in the new Netflix show Leanne, and she fell for the standup after watching just ten minutes. The Gen X love fest continues as they riff on being the forgotten generation (they don't care, actually prefer it) and how they're finally talking about menopause unlike their Boomer moms. Kristen's accent work comes up. She can nail it with Leanne around but becomes "cartoon southern" otherwise. Amy's Boston accent is officially retired unless she's angry.

Hello everyone. Welcome to Good Hang.

  2. 0:01

I'm very, very excited about our guest

  3. 0:03

today. It is Leanne Morgan. She is a

  4. 0:06

incredible, hilarious standup who had a

  5. 0:09

huge special on Netflix and now has a

  6. 0:11

new show on there called Leanne. And

  7. 0:14

look, Leanne is someone you probably are

  8. 0:17

getting to know or just found out about.

  9. 0:19

But guess what? She's been doing comedy

  10. 0:21

for a long time and you're going to hear

  11. 0:22

all about it today. So, we're going to

  12. 0:24

talk about a lot of things. We're going

  13. 0:25

to talk about her love of Diet Coke.

  14. 0:27

We're going to talk about the fact that

  15. 0:28

she was voted best looking in high

  16. 0:30

school. We're going to talk about her

  17. 0:32

husband, Chuck Morgan, and her new show

  18. 0:34

and all the good stuff that comes along

  19. 0:35

with it. And we always like to start

  20. 0:37

these episodes by asking someone who

  21. 0:40

knows our guest what question they think

  22. 0:42

I should ask them. And so joining me is

  23. 0:45

a great hilarious actress. You've seen

  24. 0:48

her uh in a very small scene in Sex in

  25. 0:50

the City, and you've seen her in Third

  26. 0:52

Rock from the Sun, and you're going to

  27. 0:54

see her in the new show Leanne, playing

  28. 0:56

the sister of Leanne Morgan's character,

  29. 0:58

Kristen Johnston. Kristen, can you hear

  30. 1:02

me? Is the Zoom working? Hi.

  31. 1:06

This episode of Good Hang is presented

  32. 1:08

by Walmart. Uh school supplies. We all

  33. 1:10

    remember getting them. I remember

  34. 1:11

Trapper Keepers and so many colored

  35. 1:14

pens, but now I'm sure there's a million

  36. 1:16

more things to get. And thankfully,

  37. 1:18

Walmart has essential back to school

  38. 1:20

supplies starting at 25. Plus, all the

  39. 1:23

latest tech starting at $9. Who knew?

  40. 1:26

    Hello Kitty pencil cases, Nintendo

  41. 1:29

    notebooks, foodshaped erasers,

  42. 1:31

Chromebooks, keyboards, and more at low

  43. 1:33

Walmart prices. They even have Lilo and

  44. 1:36

    Stitch headphones. Who knew?

  45. 1:39

    shopwart.com

  46. 1:41

to score their favorite back to school

  47. 1:43

    tech and supplies.

  49. 1:53

I was kind of thinking today it's cra we

  50. 1:56

    must have met.

  51. 1:57

I know. I think we did.

  52. 1:59

Yeah, we must have met like before the

  53. 2:01

New York smoking ban. That's where I

  54. 2:04

feel like we must have met.

  55. 2:06

I feel like I feel like we were at a a

  56. 2:09

    bar somewhere talking about like,

  57. 2:11

you know, we could have been drunk

  58. 2:12

together. God knows. God only knows.

  59. 2:15

You know, I was just reminiscing with

  60. 2:17

someone the other day. I can remember

  61. 2:18

when the New York smoking ban came into

  62. 2:20

effect and we were like, "They're not

  63. 2:21

going to let us smoke in restaurants.

  64. 2:23

    That'll never stick."

  65. 2:26

    We were like, "No way."

  66. 2:28

Wait, Amy, I'm so old. I actually

  67. 2:30

    remember physically smoking on an

  68. 2:32

    airplane.

  69. 2:33

    Yeah, I remember. I was I was I remember

  70. 2:36

people smoking on an airplane. I was

  71. 2:38

wasn't of the age yet to smoke, but

  72. 2:40

you're only a few years older than me.

  73. 2:42

Well, neither was I, but I did it

  74. 2:44

    anyway.

  75. 2:46

But you know what? I have to say,

  76. 2:47

smoking aside, cuz yeah, I did smoke for

  77. 2:49

quite a few years, but growing in New

  78. 2:52

York in the '9s was really fun.

  79. 2:54

    I know. You know, we're similar. We're

  80. 2:56

close to the same age and Leanne too.

  81. 2:58

Leanne's just a few years older. And I

  82. 3:00

want to talk to her about that cuz we

  83. 3:02

all came up in the 80s and and it was a

  84. 3:05

    completely different time.

  85. 3:07

    So different. I mean, we're I feel

  86. 3:08

really lucky and blessed to me, too. You

  87. 3:11

know, run around drinking from garden

  88. 3:13

hoses and not coming home until like

  89. 3:16

midnight at, you know, you're 6 years

  90. 3:18

old or whatever. It was fun in the 70s

  91. 3:20

    and 80s.

  92. 3:21

Okay. So, tell me how you met Leanne,

  93. 3:23

how you got involved in the show.

  94. 3:25

Okay. So, you know, I did the show Mom

  95. 3:28

with Chuck Lori. Uh Chuck calls me a

  96. 3:31

year ago, year and a half ago and like

  97. 3:33

you get a call from Chuck Lori and

  98. 3:35

    you're like,

  99. 3:36

"Do I call back? Do I, you know?"

  100. 3:38

Anyway, he calls and he's like, "Look,

  101. 3:40

do you know this uh standup Lean

  102. 3:42

    Morgan?" And I didn't because I'm not a

  103. 3:44

stand-upy person. And he goes, "Just

  104. 3:47

watch her." And so I watched I don't

  105. 3:49

even know why. And I watched like the

  106. 3:51

first 10 minutes. I called him back. I

  107. 3:53

was like, "Oh my god." And he said,

  108. 3:55

"We're doing a show. We want you to play

  109. 3:56

her sister. Susan McMartin's do." And I

  110. 3:58

was like, I'm done. I didn't even let

  111. 4:00

him finish the sentence. And then we met

  112. 4:02

a couple months later and felt deeply

  113. 4:05

    deeply in love.

  114. 4:06

    I feel I'm really excited. I've never

  115. 4:08

met her. I'm really excited to meet her

  116. 4:10

cuz I feel the same way. I feel like

  117. 4:12

    we're going to be friends.

  118. 4:13

Well, the two of you I mean, she told me

  119. 4:15

like a month ago she was coming on this

  120. 4:16

and I was like my girl crush, but also I

  121. 4:19

was like the two of you, it's going to

  122. 4:22

    be insane. Maybe I I don't even know. I

  123. 4:24

don't even know. You're going to have to

  124. 4:26

It's going to win Emmys. I'm just

  125. 4:27

saying. or whatever the first podcast to

  126. 4:29

    win Emmys and a Webbby,

  127. 4:33

    but it's never gonna

  128. 4:35

    maybe an Oscar.

  129. 4:37

Wait. Um, you you play in in Leanne the

  130. 4:42

show that's coming out. You play the

  131. 4:44

younger sister, the divorced kind of

  132. 4:47

    like the hot mess.

  133. 4:48

    The hot mess. Perfect.

  134. 4:49

    She's just a mess. She's a mess. Yeah.

  135. 4:52

No, it was really, really fun because

  136. 4:54

also she is, you know, when you meet

  137. 4:56

her, I mean, she's just everything you

  138. 4:58

want her to be, you know, she's super

  139. 4:59

    authentic and kind and hilarious

  140. 5:02

obviously. Um, and so it was really fun

  141. 5:06

to play off of that and just be dark and

  142. 5:08

    horrible,

  143. 5:10

just a wreck. So, it was fun.

  144. 5:12

And I mean, also just love I mean, I

  145. 5:14

want to talk to Leanne about it, but you

  146. 5:17

know, I'm sure you're the same way. Most

  147. 5:19

of the women I know in my 50s are

  148. 5:22

in many ways at the best place in their

  149. 5:24

    life so far.

  150. 5:25

For sure. But yeah, I just love it, man.

  151. 5:27

You know, your friends, their kids are

  152. 5:30

off to school or out of the house, so

  153. 5:32

like it's just a reconnection of like

  154. 5:34

the women in your life and you're kind

  155. 5:37

of don't care about men anymore. Sorry.

  156. 5:40

    Um

  157. 5:42

    it's just I don't know. I find it really

  158. 5:44

    fun.

  159. 5:44

Well, you know what it's so great about

  160. 5:46

being Gen X um a generation that

  161. 5:48

everyone forgets and who cares? We don't

  162. 5:50

care. Whatever. are never good. We don't

  163. 5:52

    care. We don't care.

  164. 5:53

    I actually prefer it.

  165. 5:54

Yeah. Leave us alone. We brace

  166. 5:55

    ourselves. But

  167. 5:57

what is great about being Gen X is the

  168. 5:59

women that are now Gen X are approaching

  169. 6:02

menopause with all due respect to the

  170. 6:04

boomer women ahead of us. They didn't

  171. 6:07

they didn't have the same kind of

  172. 6:08

    language resources attitude.

  173. 6:11

They didn't talk my mom like didn't talk

  174. 6:13

about menopause. No. I mean, until I

  175. 6:15

brought it up with her. So, it's like

  176. 6:17

something you had to ignore. Well, it

  177. 6:19

was like a it was like a a joke. It was

  178. 6:21

    like

  179. 6:22

Yeah. Don't talk about it. Yeah.

  180. 6:23

Yeah. It was like it it fell into those

  181. 6:25

categories of like being frigid or being

  182. 6:29

    Uhhuh.

  183. 6:29

    like a

  184. 6:30

or just or just getting your period.

  185. 6:32

Yeah. Yeah. You just don't talk about

  186. 6:34

    it.

  187. 6:37

Remember that word. She's a real

  188. 6:44

I know. I mean, right. Nobody talked

  189. 6:46

about their period. No way. I know. No

  190. 6:49

way. Or you talk about it quietly in the

  191. 6:51

bathroom with the other girls. Do you

  192. 6:52

have a tamp on? But like it wasn't like,

  193. 6:55

you know, they now like the Gen Z, they

  194. 6:58

don't care. They talk about all of it.

  195. 7:01

    It's awesome.

  196. 7:01

    Jenzie, I mean, I I don't know about

  197. 7:03

you, but I love Gen Z.

  198. 7:05

I do too. I love them. I actually choose

  199. 7:07

to hang out with them. Like, my friend's

  200. 7:09

    kids are so incredible.

  201. 7:11

I know. They're so um my my joke about

  202. 7:15

Jenzi is I they're they're so um uh

  203. 7:19

open. They teach me so much and they

  204. 7:21

always dress like they have the flu.

  205. 7:24

    That's so true. Yeah.

  206. 7:27

And so what there's a lot that she tells

  207. 7:29

us in the work that she does, but what

  208. 7:31

do you think uh what question do you

  209. 7:34

think I should ask her today that might

  210. 7:35

be a good one to to throw her away?

  211. 7:37

Oh, I think you should ask her. Well, I

  212. 7:39

would love to know this. when like when

  213. 7:43

did was Hollywood different than she

  214. 7:45

expected it to be and when did she kind

  215. 7:48

of realize that and the other thing I

  216. 7:50

would love to know is who is her

  217. 7:52

    favorite co-star

  218. 7:56

for listeners Kristen's very leaning in

  219. 7:58

and she has her hands crossed in prayer

  220. 8:02

and she's looking real cute and last

  221. 8:04

question for you is do you find it hard

  222. 8:06

to be around Lyanna and not talk in her

  223. 8:08

accent? Um, well, I had to talk in her

  224. 8:11

    accent as the character.

  225. 8:13

    That's right. You

  226. 8:14

Well, not it's a little less. I mean,

  227. 8:15

hers is very special, so I didn't want

  228. 8:18

to imitate her, but I probably talk a

  229. 8:20

little bit like her daughter, Tess. Um,

  230. 8:23

I actually find it imposs Yeah. But yes,

  231. 8:26

the answer to that is yes. I find it

  232. 8:27

really fun to slide into that. But

  233. 8:29

weirdly, when she's not around, I turn

  234. 8:31

into like, you know, who was that

  235. 8:34

    terrible southern? I don't know, like a

  236. 8:36

cartoon southern. I can't do it. But if

  237. 8:38

    she's there, I'm fine. I do it.

  238. 8:39

I know. And you know what I love that

  239. 8:41

Leanne says is when she says Nashville.

  240. 8:44

I like the the VO instead of

  241. 8:47

    and Cracker Barrel.

  242. 8:48

    Cracker Barrel.

  243. 8:49

    Let's go to Cracker Barrel.

  244. 8:50

    Crack.

  245. 8:51

Like, are we going to Cracker Barrel? I

  246. 8:53

    don't know what you're saying. And it's

  247. 8:54

    Cracker Barrel. But yeah,

  248. 8:56

    I I love an accent.

  249. 8:58

I do, too. I love an accent cuz we don't

  250. 9:00

really have one. I used to have a

  251. 9:02

Milwaukee one. Did you have a Boston?

  252. 9:03

I had a big time Boston and a really bad

  253. 9:06

    Boston. Boston accents.

  254. 9:08

Did you have to get like voice classes

  255. 9:10

    to get over it?

  256. 9:10

No. You know, I went to college and I

  257. 9:13

    realized very quickly like, oh

  258. 9:16

    yeah,

  259. 9:16

I have to try to figure this out.

  260. 9:19

    Yeah. Yeah.

  261. 9:20

Um and um it comes out when I'm angry

  262. 9:23

or, you know, yelling or something like

  263. 9:25

that can come out, but for the most

  264. 9:27

    part,

  265. 9:27

    the Boston's out.

  266. 9:29

    She's out.

  267. 9:29

Stay away from Amy. The Boston's loose.

  268. 9:34

I love you so much, Amy.

  269. 9:36

Kristen, thank you so much for this

  270. 9:38

    time.

  271. 9:38

    You're my favorite.

  272. 9:39

    Okay bye.

  273. 9:40

So good to see you. Say hi to Leanne.

  274. 9:42

    I will. Thanks so much.

  300. 10:39

Oh my gosh, Leanne is here. I'm so

  301. 10:42

    excited to talk to you.

  302. 10:46

I wish that we could be together every

  303. 10:48

day and do like Jazzer size

  304. 10:51

with me and you and Tina.

  305. 10:53

    My

  306. 10:54

and we could all do Jazz or Size. invite

  307. 10:56

Tina and we would love jazz or exercise

  308. 10:58

something slow like that. We do before

  309. 11:01

our before our shows we do just simple

  310. 11:03

    stretches. Do you stretch?

  311. 11:05

I try to but not as much as I should.

  312. 11:08

Do you do any kind of like

  313. 11:11

    Yeah.

  314. 11:11

    Yeah. You know when

  315. 11:13

    I know

  316. 11:14

Yeah. You don't even have to say it.

  317. 11:15

I try to lift every once in a while

  318. 11:18

    because of menopause bone density.

  319. 11:21

What has happened that we are at the

  320. 11:24

point in our lives where we are like

  321. 11:26

they're like okay you have to be hot

  322. 11:29

then you have to have kids and now you

  323. 11:30

have to lift heavy weights and

  324. 11:33

lift heavy weights and wear a weighted

  325. 11:34

vest while you walk and eat protein.

  326. 11:37

Everybody is eating too much protein.

  327. 11:41

    You are big time Leanne.

  328. 11:43

You are big time. What an incredible

  329. 11:45

couple of years you've had. I mean, and

  330. 11:48

and we all know it takes whatever many

  331. 11:50

years for an overnight success. Like,

  332. 11:52

    there's no overnight success. You've

  333. 11:53

been working really hard for a long

  334. 11:55

    time.

  335. 11:55

For 25 years. 25 years doing standup.

  336. 11:59

Incredible. I want to get into it

  337. 12:01

because for people who are joining us

  338. 12:02

and listening, Leanne Morgan is with us.

  339. 12:07

You are popping in that pink.

  340. 12:09

Thanks. I wor for you. But wait, is this

  341. 12:11

Leanne's wearing a denim shirt that has

  342. 12:14

    a tie included?

  343. 12:16

Yeah, I didn't know what to do because

  344. 12:18

    so cute

  345. 12:19

because I was I mean this is a big deal

  346. 12:21

for me. I said this is my Super Bowl

  347. 12:24

and I just and I put on big bridges and

  348. 12:27

but I do have a panty line but I I was

  349. 12:31

going to wear a full thing of Spanx and

  350. 12:32

I thought I want to be able to enjoy

  351. 12:33

this being with you and be in the

  352. 12:35

    moment.

  353. 12:36

I can't do Spanx anymore. For who? Who

  354. 12:38

    are they for?

  355. 12:39

I don't know. But hateful. Hateful.

  356. 12:42

Okay. And me being on a television show

  357. 12:45

    now. Yeah,

  358. 12:46

I saw my butt on TV. So, I do they put

  359. 12:49

me in a bunch of Spanx during my TV

  360. 12:51

    show.

  361. 12:52

Yeah, it is. I mean, I guess it's great

  362. 12:54

    to

  363. 12:56

slimming waist to girdles, all that

  364. 12:59

    Like, I can't believe we're back

  365. 13:01

there again, but but there's no worse

  366. 13:03

feeling than having to take it off and

  367. 13:06

the struggle and the way you hurt

  368. 13:09

yourself. Like, you pull a muscle taking

  369. 13:11

    it off.

  370. 13:11

I know. I know. And also, I think

  371. 13:13

there's no sadder thing than when you

  372. 13:15

have to take off your own jewelry and

  373. 13:17

there's nobody there to help you take it

  374. 13:19

    off.

  375. 13:19

Nobody to help you. I'm going to have to

  376. 13:21

start wearing those magnet ones like my

  377. 13:22

little aunt Llaya did. She would hand me

  378. 13:25

a Tums and then put her little magnet.

  379. 13:28

Hang on. She always had dirty Tums in

  380. 13:30

    the bottom of her purse.

  381. 13:31

Oo, I love it. Loose Tums.

  382. 13:34

Wait, talking about jewelry, let's start

  383. 13:36

at the beginning. So Lean Morgan in in

  384. 13:40

    Tennessee

  385. 13:41

in the foothills of the Appalachia

  386. 13:43

    Mountains.

  387. 13:44

    Tell me.

  388. 13:45

    I have to say that.

  389. 13:46

Okay. I wanted to think about teenage

  390. 13:49

    Leanne for a second.

  391. 13:50

Cuz were you like a funny high schooler?

  392. 13:53

Were you Did you get like class clown or

  393. 13:55

    something?

  394. 13:56

    Um

  395. 13:56

were did you get superlative? I did get

  396. 13:59

a superlative and it was Miss Joe Joe

  397. 14:01

Burns High School and um best looking

  398. 14:06

cuz I still had my bloom Amy and I was

  399. 14:10

you know but I only graduated 42 people

  400. 14:12

in in a town of 500 where we grew dark

  401. 14:16

    fire tobacco. I'm not kidding.

  402. 14:19

You got but still that you can still

  403. 14:21

take that you got best looking.

  404. 14:24

    I did.

  405. 14:25

That's a big deal. But they didn't even

  406. 14:28

have a funniest now that I think about

  407. 14:30

it in surp and that would have been my

  408. 14:31

favorite. I know that would have been my

  409. 14:33

my children got it at their school

  410. 14:35

funniest because they're funny. But yes,

  411. 14:38

I I was like my teachers would say,

  412. 14:41

"Lyn, can you be the MC? Can you do the

  413. 14:43

announcements? Can you do the" They

  414. 14:46

because I was a ham, but also they

  415. 14:48

thought I would get up in front of

  416. 14:49

people and they knew I could do it. So I

  417. 14:51

did do all that for my little high

  418. 14:53

    school.

  419. 14:54

Okay. And then did you feel like at any

  420. 14:58

point during that time that you did you

  421. 15:00

know anyone that was a performer anyone

  422. 15:02

    that was an actor? Any

  423. 15:03

No. No. But I grew up from the time I

  424. 15:06

was nine or 10 thinking I'm going to be

  425. 15:08

in show business. I'm going to go to

  426. 15:10

Hollywood. I did. And my little mama

  427. 15:12

Lucille let me stay home from

  428. 15:14

    kindergarten. I almost failed

  429. 15:16

kindergarten because she let me stay

  430. 15:17

home and watch Match Game and Hollywood

  431. 15:19

Squares. I love Paul Lynn. love and um

  432. 15:22

Gene Rayurn had the skinny microphone

  433. 15:24

and everybody was dirty. It was so

  434. 15:26

it was filthy filthy. But I love that I

  435. 15:30

grew up watching, you know, Lucille Ball

  436. 15:32

and Carol Bernette and all that. And my

  437. 15:34

mama would say, "You're going to

  438. 15:35

Hollywood." Yes, you can go because

  439. 15:36

you've got blonde hair on your body and

  440. 15:37

you'll photograph well. And I thought,

  441. 15:40

"Oh, I can make it." And then I went

  442. 15:43

through high school and we had this

  443. 15:44

little, this is crazy, but we had a a

  444. 15:46

wonderful um our choir teacher, band

  445. 15:50

teacher, Mr. Bunch, who was precious and

  446. 15:52

loved me and knew I couldn't sing and

  447. 15:54

all that, but would include me and all

  448. 15:56

that. And I would just mow words in

  449. 15:58

front of the choir cuz he thought I

  450. 16:00

could dazzle. And then we had this

  451. 16:02

speech and drama class. Yeah. Where they

  452. 16:05

let us do improv and I loved it.

  453. 16:08

And then I was in one play in high

  454. 16:10

school. They did a lot of musicals and I

  455. 16:12

had talented people in this little town

  456. 16:14

of and 42 people in my class. I had a

  457. 16:16

boy that graduated from Giuliard and

  458. 16:18

    became an actor.

  459. 16:19

    Wow.

  460. 16:19

And then there were four boys that had a

  461. 16:21

little country music band called the Red

  462. 16:24

River Boys and they were talented. And

  463. 16:26

so we had fun like in improv and all

  464. 16:29

    that.

  465. 16:30

What What What was your high school

  466. 16:31

    play? Do you remember it?

  467. 16:33

    It was um Little Abner.

  468. 16:35

    Oh yeah.

  469. 16:35

    And I didn't have a I didn't have a

  470. 16:37

line, Amy. I was the sex symbol.

  471. 16:42

You were re I mean you were cruising on

  472. 16:44

    that best looking girl.

  473. 16:45

I was I was stupifying Jones. My hair

  474. 16:49

would not fit in this studio.

  475. 16:51

    Oh, none of us.

  476. 16:52

And I had on panty hoes underneath a

  477. 16:54

bathing suit and I did not have I just

  478. 16:57

had to gyate. But I'm not kidding you. I

  479. 17:00

thought, okay, this is the beginning of

  480. 17:02

my Hollywood career. I really did. I

  481. 17:04

thought, okay, I've got something. What

  482. 17:07

is it like being considered really

  483. 17:10

attractive in high school? Cuz you don't

  484. 17:13

want to peek too early. Like

  485. 17:15

And I think I did peek too early.

  486. 17:17

Um it's it's not easy to be considered

  487. 17:20

good-looking in high school. Beth, it's

  488. 17:21

a lot of pressure. I imagine. I can only

  489. 17:23

    imagine.

  490. 17:23

It was a lot of pressure. And me and my

  491. 17:25

sister Beth, who was three and a half

  492. 17:28

years older than me, we were tall and

  493. 17:30

    blonde.

  494. 17:31

And we would lay out behind our little

  495. 17:33

house in yard chairs with snakes and

  496. 17:37

sunbathe. And the farming people would

  497. 17:40

haul corns at us and you know, and we

  498. 17:44

    wouldn't,

  499. 17:46

you know, we knew we were kind of a big

  500. 17:47

deal in that town. Yeah. A lot of people

  501. 17:50

    honked.

  502. 17:51

I mean, being tall and blonde in the

  503. 17:53

80s. jackpot. A lot of people a lot of

  504. 17:56

    people honked.

  505. 17:57

A lot of people honked tennis.

  506. 18:01

But me thinking, my sister wasn't

  507. 18:02

    thinking anything. I was thinking

  508. 18:04

Hollywood. I mean, this is my base, my

  509. 18:08

ground work to be in Hollywood. That's

  510. 18:11

what I thought. I really did.

  511. 18:12

It's funny you say that because there

  512. 18:14

was a certain like burden when you were

  513. 18:16

    like considered good-looking in high

  514. 18:18

school, which was like this is my

  515. 18:19

burden. I'm going to need I'm going to

  516. 18:20

let people look at me and honk.

  517. 18:24

while they were picking up meat at my

  518. 18:26

mom and daddy's meat processing plant.

  519. 18:28

So, we did everybody's meat. So, people

  520. 18:30

would drive up in trucks. It was behind

  521. 18:33

our house and look down at us laying in

  522. 18:36

a yarn chair with copper hands around us

  523. 18:41

cuz there was no swimming pool.

  524. 18:43

    Sure.

  525. 18:45

We had to drive into town to get to a

  526. 18:47

    swimming pool. That's how rural.

  527. 18:48

    And baby oil. I'm sure

  528. 18:50

baby oil and sun damage and

  529. 18:52

Yeah. so much. How what are you doing

  530. 18:53

with We'll get We'll get to your career,

  531. 18:55

but what are you doing with your sun

  532. 18:56

damage right now? Because it's coming to

  533. 18:58

    roost for me.

  534. 19:00

It's coming to roost like a lot. You

  535. 19:02

know, my I had just had a doctor say no

  536. 19:04

    more sun.

  537. 19:06

He did. Or she did. She did. A woman

  538. 19:10

dermatologist is the best because Okay,

  539. 19:13

Amy, I don't mean to be Debbie Downer,

  540. 19:14

but I had a melanoma when I was 21 from

  541. 19:18

laying out with all those copperheads.

  542. 19:20

That's what I want to know. And then and

  543. 19:22

and so I had you always get a female

  544. 19:24

    dermat. I love men

  545. 19:26

always. No, I don't like ma male

  546. 19:28

    doctors,

  547. 19:28

but female they'll they'll measure your

  548. 19:31

toenails and like what all they are

  549. 19:34

thorough. So yeah. So um I didn't have

  550. 19:37

as much sun damage as a lot of people my

  551. 19:39

age because I got that at 21 and they

  552. 19:41

scared the living daylights out of me.

  553. 19:42

    And

  554. 19:43

    because your skin is amazing.

  555. 19:44

Thank you, Amy. Well, I've eaten too

  556. 19:47

much. I mean, I've eaten a lot of white

  557. 19:49

flour and sugar and like processed food,

  558. 19:52

    which is not good.

  559. 19:53

We're never going to get that back.

  560. 19:54

Like, we didn't know. We didn't know.

  561. 19:56

That coke and a goldfish in a car with a

  562. 19:58

bunch of kids was my favorite thing.

  563. 20:01

I mean, any kind of food that you can

  564. 20:02

get at a pharmacy like that

  565. 20:05

that lasts forever. We ate all it. I

  566. 20:08

mean, don't you remember that there was

  567. 20:09

this feeling in the 80s like, "No, don't

  568. 20:12

eat regular food. Eat the new fake fancy

  569. 20:16

    food.

  570. 20:17

And I remember my mama saying, Lucille

  571. 20:20

said that her mama said, "Don't

  572. 20:23

    breastfeed. That's for tacky people.

  573. 20:25

Here's this formula." And my mama would

  574. 20:27

sneak and try to breastfeed behind

  575. 20:29

nanny's back. Because it wasn't cool.

  576. 20:33

Exactly the same with my mom. People

  577. 20:34

were like, "You, if you love your child,

  578. 20:37

give them this formula that has all the

  579. 20:39

stuff in it." And it was like, "Well, I

  580. 20:40

don't want to give my child the horrible

  581. 20:43

    natural

  582. 20:44

    super fines."

  583. 20:46

Yeah. And it was like eat a Don't eat a

  584. 20:47

steak. Eat a stum. Remember stums.

  585. 20:51

    Remember stums?

  586. 20:52

    Yes.

  587. 20:53

    I love to st them.

  588. 20:54

    Love to stake them.

  589. 20:56

Okay. But getting back to jewelry. I'm

  590. 20:57

sorry. We could talk about this forever.

  591. 20:58

Being a salesperson is a very specific

  592. 21:01

skill. Were you good at it?

  593. 21:02

Yes. And I think I could sell. If I

  594. 21:04

believe in something, I can sell it.

  595. 21:07

    I'll just say

  596. 21:07

    I'm gonna I'm wearing

  597. 21:08

I'm not good at math. There's a lot of

  598. 21:10

    things.

  599. 21:10

    I'm wearing a bracelet right now. I'm

  600. 21:12

taking it off. I want Can you tell? Can

  601. 21:14

you try to sell this to me? That why I

  602. 21:17

should have it. It's a just a gold

  603. 21:18

    bracelet.

  604. 21:19

    Oh my gosh, Amy.

  605. 21:21

Everybody needs a touch of gold.

  606. 21:23

Brightens you up. Gives you a pop. This

  607. 21:26

is what is in right now with this link.

  608. 21:29

    Everybody's wearing it. That's a

  609. 21:30

    wonderful clasp.

  610. 21:32

I don't think you can get it on by

  611. 21:34

    yourself but

  612. 21:36

you I mean, you've got to have that. And

  613. 21:38

I would suggest even stacking a few

  614. 21:40

    more.

  615. 21:41

Well, I do love that everyone's wearing

  616. 21:43

it. It does look nice. A a touch of

  617. 21:46

    gold.

  618. 21:46

A touch of gold and a gold earring.

  619. 21:48

Always keep them in your purse.

  620. 21:49

You are good because you're now selling

  621. 21:51

    me earrings

  622. 21:52

cuz you don't want to go without an

  623. 21:53

earring. And that and a gold just always

  624. 21:55

gives you a little something. Okay. But

  625. 21:57

let me tell you, when I was selling that

  626. 21:59

jewelry, I was supposed to be talking

  627. 22:00

    about jewelry and I didn't.

  628. 22:01

You didn't. What were you talking about?

  629. 22:04

    Hemorrhoids, breastfeeding, wanting to

  630. 22:07

kill Chuck Morgan, my husband, because

  631. 22:08

he didn't hear a baby cry in the night.

  632. 22:11

And but they had given us a speech and

  633. 22:13

and I would take this big jewelry case

  634. 22:16

and put it out and then somebody would

  635. 22:17

have like a coconut cake um brownies a

  636. 22:21

dip and I was supposed to give this

  637. 22:23

presentation and and I just that's where

  638. 22:26

    I think I started standup.

  639. 22:27

    Mhm.

  640. 22:28

    I mean I I had not I didn't know what my

  641. 22:31

Hollywood was going to be standup and

  642. 22:34

but Chuck Morgan and I before we married

  643. 22:36

went to and let me go back to say I did

  644. 22:38

peak in high school. I went to college

  645. 22:39

and I was like a wreck.

  646. 22:42

That's what happens with best looking.

  647. 22:44

Best looking sometimes goes downhill in

  648. 22:46

    college.

  649. 22:46

    I went downhill

  650. 22:49

and was doing horrible things. Even

  651. 22:51

though my girls go, "Mom, it's not that

  652. 22:52

bad what you were doing." But to me it

  653. 22:54

was bad. Like I wasn't going to class

  654. 22:57

and I would try to flirt with boys like,

  655. 22:59

"Can I have your notes?" And they look

  656. 23:00

pissed. But I I was smoking cigarette

  657. 23:04

and I was going to clubs and I was

  658. 23:06

You can say smoking cigarettes. I was

  659. 23:08

smoking cigarettes and I loved them.

  660. 23:09

I'll just say it. It was wrong.

  661. 23:11

It was wrong and they're not good.

  662. 23:13

    They're not good

  663. 23:14

and they're terrible for you and they

  664. 23:15

    shorten your life. And boy,

  665. 23:16

    they shorten your life.

  666. 23:17

    Boy, were they fun.

  667. 23:19

    They were fun.

  668. 23:21

Good with a Diet Coke cup of coffee. Had

  669. 23:23

    a ball.

  670. 23:24

Somebody said that a Diet Somebody uh

  671. 23:25

called a Diet Coke a refrigerator

  672. 23:28

    cigarette.

  673. 23:29

I don't know who said that. Who?

  674. 23:31

And now you're kind of ashamed to tell

  675. 23:32

people order a Diet Coke. You're like,

  676. 23:34

"Can I have a Diet Coke?"

  677. 23:36

I know. Tell me the first time you and

  678. 23:39

Chuck Morgan met. Give us the meat cute.

  679. 23:42

Okay. We were both waiting tables. I I

  680. 23:45

was waiting tables at this place and he

  681. 23:46

was a new person. He'd gone back to NBA

  682. 23:49

school and was going to wait tables

  683. 23:51

there and they took this training group

  684. 23:53

through and he's very tall, 6'4, was

  685. 23:57

very thin. I always say he looked like a

  686. 23:58

praying manis. He was too thin. And he

  687. 24:02

and he walked through and I said, "Oh,

  688. 24:04

you're tall as a tree." And he went,

  689. 24:05

    "Sorry." And I thought, "Another

  690. 24:07

butthole's come to work at Grady's."

  691. 24:10

And then we would have these meetings. I

  692. 24:13

mean, that was it. And then we would

  693. 24:15

have these we just stand on the wall

  694. 24:16

waiting to be seated or table to be

  695. 24:18

seated and he would just stand next to

  696. 24:20

me. He was very quiet. And I didn't know

  697. 24:22

he was falling in love with me. And then

  698. 24:24

we would have a meeting with the

  699. 24:26

manager, you know, like what the shift

  700. 24:28

meeting. And I got a big baked potato

  701. 24:30

with sour cream and butter on it. And he

  702. 24:32

said, "You shouldn't be eating all that

  703. 24:33

    fat."

  704. 24:34

Cuz he was on a he had been getting

  705. 24:36

really lean. Praying man is lean.

  706. 24:39

And put cottage cheese on his baked

  707. 24:41

    potato.

  708. 24:41

    He's flirting with you. He's he's

  709. 24:43

negging you is what the kids

  710. 24:44

I guess. But I thought, but ho. Yeah.

  711. 24:47

Then I would say to a girlfriend, you

  712. 24:50

know, waiting tables, I like your

  713. 24:52

    Doneyian Burke purse.

  714. 24:54

He would bring me a Doney and Burke

  715. 24:55

purse the next day with a big ribbon.

  716. 24:58

    but hadn't spoken to me.

  717. 25:01

    So weird.

  718. 25:01

And then he was like when he was trying

  719. 25:03

to date and then buying my cigarettes

  720. 25:06

like, "Yeah, I'll get you a pack of

  721. 25:07

cigarettes." And then but then we, you

  722. 25:10

know, thought this is it and then he was

  723. 25:13

like, "You smell bad." And then started

  724. 25:14

    nagging me over it

  725. 25:15

and then got that monkey off my back

  726. 25:17

though. Yeah. Then thank goodness he

  727. 25:19

nagged me until I quit and because I

  728. 25:22

probably would still be sitting here

  729. 25:24

smoking if it wasn't for Chuck Morgan.

  730. 25:26

    But

  731. 25:27

he he was really head over heels right

  732. 25:28

    away.

  733. 25:29

    He was.

  734. 25:30

    Yeah,

  735. 25:31

he was. And um and I think it's because

  736. 25:34

um he's a math person and I'm an artist.

  737. 25:36

And your advice to stay married this

  738. 25:38

long, what's your advice? Like how do

  739. 25:40

    you

  740. 25:40

    um a lot of praying

  741. 25:42

    in a bathtub?

  742. 25:43

    Mhm.

  743. 25:44

    Um

  744. 25:46

we do go to bed mad. You know, you hear

  745. 25:48

    people say

  746. 25:51

that's good to hear. And then you just,

  747. 25:53

you know, go, "Well, that's not that

  748. 25:55

    important. I'll push that down."

  749. 25:58

    Yeah.

  750. 25:59

And then, but um yeah, just tolerating.

  751. 26:02

So, the secret is to just stick in there

  752. 26:05

    no matter what.

  753. 26:05

Stick in there and and know that that

  754. 26:09

yes, he is a math person and that he is

  755. 26:13

going to not be specific to your

  756. 26:16

    relationship.

  757. 26:19

Yeah. that you find the fun where you

  758. 26:22

    can

  759. 26:22

    but not with your partner.

  760. 26:24

    Right.

  761. 26:25

    Yeah.

  762. 26:25

I have old I've had old women go rely on

  763. 26:28

your friends, girl, because they want to

  764. 26:30

talk. You know, men You're right. Men

  765. 26:32

sit there and get less and less where

  766. 26:34

    they don't want to talk.

  767. 26:35

Yeah. They get quieter and quieter.

  768. 26:36

They get quieter and quieter and they

  769. 26:38

just zone out. And so you do I talk to

  770. 26:41

my girlfriends. He goes, "You're always

  771. 26:42

on the phone." Yeah. I need somebody to

  772. 26:44

talk to, Chuck. Um but okay. So college

  773. 26:48

and then I married Chuck Morgan. But we

  774. 26:50

went out to LA and I got to go to the

  775. 26:51

comedy store and I saw people do stand

  776. 26:54

up and I thought I can do that. I know I

  777. 26:56

    can do that.

  778. 26:56

Do you remember who you saw?

  779. 26:57

    Um I saw Dom Morera.

  780. 26:59

    Oh yeah.

  781. 27:00

Um Paul Mooney and he did like two hours

  782. 27:02

and we sat there and watched him and he

  783. 27:04

told us all that Elizabeth Taylor had

  784. 27:06

died and it was a lie but it was funny.

  785. 27:10

He goes, "Elizabeth Taylor has passed."

  786. 27:12

And everybody, he goes, "I'm just

  787. 27:14

kidding." But but I saw all these

  788. 27:17

wonderful people and I thought, "I can

  789. 27:18

do that. I can do that. Now I know what

  790. 27:20

    that is."

  791. 27:21

But anyh who, so then I married Junk

  792. 27:23

Morgan, moved me to the Appalachia

  793. 27:25

Mountains and I sold that jewelry. But I

  794. 27:28

was in a little I was in a living room

  795. 27:30

with darling women who were also had

  796. 27:33

    hemorrhoids

  797. 27:34

and all that and I was killing. Amy,

  798. 27:37

how did you go from, man, I want to be

  799. 27:40

doing standup to going to the club to do

  800. 27:43

it? Like, that's a big Rubicon. A lot of

  801. 27:45

people don't cross. You know, they say,

  802. 27:47

"I want to be a performer." They say, "I

  803. 27:48

want to I'm funny. My, you know, my my

  804. 27:51

the people that know me think I'm really

  805. 27:52

funny. I'm the funniest person at work."

  806. 27:54

Whatever people say, but they don't go

  807. 27:57

    and do it.

  808. 27:58

Yeah. Okay. Okay. Well, I tell you, when

  809. 27:59

I was doing the jewelry, the company

  810. 28:01

noticed that I was booking so far in

  811. 28:03

advance that they asked me to start

  812. 28:05

speaking at their big things. And that

  813. 28:06

and then I knew I could do it, right?

  814. 28:08

But I also said two women,

  815. 28:12

book a party with me now or see me in

  816. 28:14

Las Vegas later, which I is very

  817. 28:16

    arrogant,

  818. 28:17

but I saw it, Amy. I thought, I'm going

  819. 28:20

to do this. So then Chuck Morgan sells

  820. 28:22

his business, goes to work for a big

  821. 28:24

corporation that sends us to San

  822. 28:26

Antonio, Texas. I started doing open mic

  823. 28:30

at S in San Antonio and then I drove

  824. 28:32

back and forth with three babies by

  825. 28:34

then. Three little babies. They were

  826. 28:36

three, five, and seven by the time I got

  827. 28:38

to Texas. And I would go to Austin,

  828. 28:40

Texas, where it was one of the best

  829. 28:42

    comedy clubs. Dennis Miller's brother,

  830. 28:44

    Rich Miller, owned that club.

  831. 28:47

And I got up at Chickstick they called

  832. 28:50

it, when they let women up on Wednesday

  833. 28:53

    night for 10 minutes.

  834. 28:54

They were like, "Come on, girls. All of

  835. 28:57

you get together and you equal one other

  836. 28:59

    guy.

  837. 29:01

We'll get 20 of you together and you can

  838. 29:03

all talk about that stuff you talk

  839. 29:04

    about.

  840. 29:04

Uhhuh. And all the boys were doing

  841. 29:06

    Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonations

  842. 29:09

and I'll just tell you I stood out. But

  843. 29:12

I did have on a little um I'd look back

  844. 29:16

on it and Comedy Central did not want

  845. 29:17

me. Nobody, you know, I was not I didn't

  846. 29:19

have any edge to me. I had an

  847. 29:21

unfortunate bob. I had capries on that

  848. 29:24

    had burns on them.

  849. 29:26

And I was talking about who doo doo on a

  850. 29:29

te-ball field which is still some of my

  851. 29:32

    best material.

  852. 29:33

    Totally.

  853. 29:34

    Um

  854. 29:35

you would have been my favorite for

  855. 29:36

    sure.

  856. 29:36

    Thank you.

  857. 29:38

But that I was doing that with little

  858. 29:40

children honey and did that in Texas for

  859. 29:42

about three years and then you know got

  860. 29:45

on a little tour with two other female

  861. 29:47

comedians. We slept around and you know

  862. 29:50

people probably begged to u our agent

  863. 29:53

    begged people to take us

  864. 29:54

but anyway it gave me the seasoning.

  865. 29:57

Yeah. But I always the whole time it was

  866. 30:01

I wanted to be on Saturday Night Love

  867. 30:03

and I just look back on it and I've said

  868. 30:05

to people that I've gotten to meet from

  869. 30:06

Saturday Night Love Fred Armison who is

  870. 30:09

    from heaven

  871. 30:10

    totally the best

  872. 30:12

from heaven and you know I did a movie

  873. 30:13

with Will Frell and he said to tell you

  874. 30:16

hello and I told him when my show was

  875. 30:18

coming out and my new Netflix special

  876. 30:20

and he said oh that's great I'm too busy

  877. 30:23

    I won't be watching

  878. 30:24

    [Laughter]

  879. 30:28

But I mean is I what you're saying is my

  880. 30:30

favorite thing too. Like teasing is a

  881. 30:33

really fun love language. Like when

  882. 30:35

people tease each other like it to me it

  883. 30:37

means they have respect for each other.

  884. 30:39

Like and you tease Chuck your husband a

  885. 30:42

    lot. Like I would I wouldn't say

  886. 30:44

necessarily tease him but he's a big

  887. 30:46

    part of your material.

  888. 30:48

He is. He's been a lot. Amy,

  889. 30:50

    Chuck,

  890. 30:52

Chuck Morgan and I are exact opposite

  891. 30:55

    and I find that funny.

  892. 30:57

It is so funny. I love how you describe

  893. 30:59

him and your relationship and how he how

  894. 31:03

he how like his system and your system

  895. 31:06

work together. What is Chuck's system?

  896. 31:08

    What is your system?

  897. 31:09

    Oh,

  898. 31:11

I don't know if it works that well

  899. 31:12

together. We've made it. We had a bunch

  900. 31:15

of kids together and he takes care of

  901. 31:17

the checkbook because I can't deal with

  902. 31:20

that. But Chuck Morg is very

  903. 31:22

    introverted. I'm extroverted. I've had

  904. 31:24

to talk for him for years. But he's

  905. 31:26

social. He wants to be with people. But

  906. 31:28

he's a fly on the wall. He likes things

  907. 31:31

    organized. Um, you know.

  908. 31:34

Um, I remember saying to him like, "I

  909. 31:37

know I've got something, Chuck. I can

  910. 31:38

make it in Hollywood. Let's sell

  911. 31:40

everything and I'll cook off a hot

  912. 31:42

plate." and he went, "Are you crazy? We

  913. 31:44

need health insurance." And I guess it's

  914. 31:48

a good thing he, you know, kept me down.

  915. 31:51

    Um,

  916. 31:54

cuz I did get to raise these little

  917. 31:55

children. And then this happens to me in

  918. 31:58

    my late 50s and I I don't think I'll get

  919. 32:00

hooked on dope. I mean, I'm not kidding.

  920. 32:03

If this had happened to me at 20, I

  921. 32:04

would be on dope, I think. Yeah.

  922. 32:07

But this is so much pressure. How have

  923. 32:08

    you done it?

  924. 32:09

    Well, I Well, I It's really interesting

  925. 32:11

you say that. Like I feel like the idea

  926. 32:14

of coming into this kind of lifestyle in

  927. 32:17

your 50s, you do have a lot of tools.

  928. 32:20

Like you actually have a hopefully like

  929. 32:22

a family that you can depend on because

  930. 32:24

I know you depend on them and you have a

  931. 32:26

solid marriage and like it is hard. It's

  932. 32:28

like a weird uh But wait, I want to go

  933. 32:31

back because Chuck, you say, "Chuck, I

  934. 32:33

want to do this." He says, "Let's get

  935. 32:36

    real."

  936. 32:37

Yes. And he always supported me and he

  937. 32:40

would take care of these babies. Yes.

  938. 32:42

And honey, I would pass them off in a

  939. 32:43

minivan to him and go get on stage. He

  940. 32:46

always supported me in all of it. He

  941. 32:49

    just said

  942. 32:50

    he's not a dreamer.

  943. 32:52

    I'm a dreamer.

  944. 32:54

And he said they need health insurance.

  945. 32:56

    He was right.

  946. 32:58

He has always had a big job executive at

  947. 33:01

a company. Made a wonderful living for

  948. 33:03

    us.

  949. 33:04

I didn't have to take horrible gigs

  950. 33:06

where I had to drive 300 miles for $50

  951. 33:09

and sleep in my car. Right.

  952. 33:11

So, it was because of Chuck Morgan that

  953. 33:13

really it all worked out the best way it

  954. 33:15

could. It really did. But yes, Chuck

  955. 33:18

Morgan, I'm I've been traveling with

  956. 33:19

him. I'm going Tampa today to be with

  957. 33:21

him and I will have to hold his mixed

  958. 33:23

    nuts.

  959. 33:25

    He will say, "Hold this.

  960. 33:28

Do you have any toothpaste?" Like I He

  961. 33:30

I'm constantly having to tend to him

  962. 33:32

like I would a child. Well, I feel like

  963. 33:35

for a lot of women I know our age and

  964. 33:37

older. The other thing is when you have

  965. 33:39

a partner, a straight because look,

  966. 33:42

we're talking about straight men, which

  967. 33:44

    unfortunately is what we're attracted

  968. 33:46

    to,

  969. 33:48

which I've always said, my next

  970. 33:49

husband's going to be a gay man,

  971. 33:52

and we're going to look for fabric

  972. 33:53

    together,

  973. 33:55

and he'll leave me alone, and I'll leave

  974. 33:56

him alone. I mean, would that not be the

  975. 33:59

I've got so many gay friends, men that

  976. 34:02

    I'm in love with.

  977. 34:03

    Yeah.

  978. 34:04

That that one says to me all the time,

  979. 34:05

"Would it kill you to put some height in

  980. 34:07

    your hair, Leanne?"

  981. 34:09

And he's always getting behind me and

  982. 34:10

    giving me a back comb.

  983. 34:13

But I love that. But and Chuck Morgan

  984. 34:15

loves the gay men. They'll tend to Chuck

  985. 34:17

and go, "Here, Chuck. Here's a cocktail

  986. 34:19

and some nice chicken salad on a nice

  987. 34:22

    cracker." And Chuck, you know,

  988. 34:24

beans. But you know, men that are

  989. 34:26

married live longer and women who are

  990. 34:28

    married live shorter

  991. 34:30

because we have to tend to them.

  992. 34:32

I know it's it's really like women who

  993. 34:35

are not married, who are single and not

  994. 34:37

    married live longest.

  995. 34:40

    Take that in.

  996. 34:41

Take that in. And that I know that's a

  997. 34:43

statistic that I was very well aware of.

  998. 34:47

And also that what I love when you talk

  999. 34:50

about your husband in your work and is

  1000. 34:53

you talk about the way in which like he

  1001. 34:56

um he's like reluctantly along for the

  1002. 35:00

ride that is you you know which is so

  1003. 35:03

fun and funny cuz he loves the ride. He

  1004. 35:06

    loves the ride.

  1005. 35:07

    Yeah.

  1006. 35:08

    And

  1007. 35:08

    he does.

  1008. 35:09

    He does.

  1009. 35:10

And he'll say I've got fans.

  1010. 35:12

I just shot my la my ne my second

  1011. 35:14

Netflix and he came out on stage

  1012. 35:16

    afterwards and was doing this.

  1013. 35:21

But Chuck Morgan says to me all the

  1014. 35:24

time, I'm going to I'll retire from my

  1015. 35:27

job. He's still working for that big

  1016. 35:28

company and I'll just come with you. And

  1017. 35:30

    I'm like, no,

  1018. 35:33

no. Cuz Amy, I can't be putting on Spanx

  1019. 35:37

while he's eating nuts and grabbing my

  1020. 35:40

breast and I've got to get in my comedy

  1021. 35:42

mind. Like I have to take a comedy nap.

  1022. 35:45

Even if I don't go to sleep, I've got to

  1023. 35:47

    shut my eyes. Get right.

  1024. 35:49

No, you don't. You need to be a part.

  1025. 35:51

    Chuck can't come along.

  1026. 35:53

    I can't. He can't.

  1027. 35:54

    He can't come along

  1028. 35:55

because he he needs me to tend to him.

  1029. 35:57

And I've got somebody's got to tend to

  1030. 35:58

    me. I'm getting to be

  1031. 36:01

    my baby child.

  1032. 36:02

She's my professional makeup artist and

  1033. 36:04

I say caregiver and she said I didn't

  1034. 36:06

    sign up for that.

  1035. 36:08

But she is still strong and still has

  1036. 36:10

grip in her hands. You know, I don't

  1037. 36:12

have any grip when I went through

  1038. 36:13

    menopause.

  1039. 36:14

Uh I would wake up and try to unscrew

  1040. 36:17

something and it was like a like you're

  1041. 36:19

just like, "Well, I guess I'm just never

  1042. 36:21

    going to get in there.

  1043. 36:22

You're never going to eat a pickle

  1044. 36:23

    again."

  1045. 36:23

    Eat a pickle again.

  1046. 36:26

    Never going to eat.

  1047. 36:27

No. Unless you just smash it on the

  1048. 36:29

    ground.

  1049. 36:30

I know. I ordered all those things from

  1050. 36:31

    Amazon that grips.

  1051. 36:33

    Oh yeah.

  1052. 36:33

That you haven't had one of those grip

  1053. 36:35

things and then just hit it with a

  1054. 36:36

butter knife before you open it. But she

  1055. 36:39

    tends to me.

  1056. 36:40

And what is it like being is it nice to

  1057. 36:42

    be hanging out with your

  1058. 36:43

It is. But let me It is. She has been

  1059. 36:47

But she, you know, gets hormonal and can

  1060. 36:50

be smart elic. But, you know, that's

  1061. 36:52

okay. That's nature. But she's about to

  1062. 36:55

move to New York with my middle child.

  1063. 36:57

    my other daughter,

  1064. 36:58

    Maggie.

  1065. 36:59

Oh, wow. Leanne, that's a big deal. Cuz

  1066. 37:01

    how old are they now?

  1067. 37:03

    27 and 29.

  1068. 37:05

And they're going to miss these

  1069. 37:06

    grandbabies. I've got two grandbabies

  1070. 37:07

that live in Knoxville. Um they're like

  1071. 37:10

    20 minutes from me.

  1072. 37:11

    Yeah. Two grandsons, right?

  1073. 37:13

Two grandsons. A redhead and a

  1074. 37:15

    white-headed one.

  1075. 37:16

And then you talk so much about your son

  1076. 37:18

and your act and it's so funny because

  1077. 37:21

of your How how are how is it feeling

  1078. 37:24

now that your son is a dad? Oh, it's

  1079. 37:26

    precious. I knew he'd be a be a sweet

  1080. 37:28

daddy, but he's an old soul. You know, I

  1081. 37:30

talk about him all the time, like played

  1082. 37:32

the banjo in middle school after

  1083. 37:35

    football practice,

  1084. 37:37

had a garden, still has a garden. These

  1085. 37:39

babies eat out of that garden. And um

  1086. 37:42

he's from I think he took after my

  1087. 37:44

people, farming people. He likes to grow

  1088. 37:47

    things. And

  1089. 37:47

what do you like to do?

  1090. 37:48

    Loves history.

  1091. 37:49

Um he grows everything, gardens. And my

  1092. 37:52

little mama always had a garden and put

  1093. 37:53

    up and canned.

  1094. 37:54

Mhm. And we killed our own beef.

  1095. 37:57

Do you do that still? Do you still make

  1096. 37:58

    No.

  1097. 37:59

    No.

  1098. 38:00

Now I'm, you know, kind of busy.

  1099. 38:02

Lucille. Now mama doesn't can anymore,

  1100. 38:04

but we'll go to her house and we'll all

  1101. 38:06

can just like, you know, like down the

  1102. 38:08

line people bring bushel of corn. When I

  1103. 38:11

say rural, I mean I'm from farming rural

  1104. 38:14

    people.

  1105. 38:15

So when you say we all can, is it kind

  1106. 38:16

of like assembly line? We're all canning

  1107. 38:18

    that day. We're sealing it.

  1108. 38:19

We're canning that day. Sealing it up.

  1109. 38:22

    Chopping everything. She makes a

  1110. 38:23

    vegetable soup. a homemade vegetable

  1111. 38:25

soup with tomato juice that you would

  1112. 38:28

    slap somebody over.

  1113. 38:30

    Unbelievable.

  1114. 38:32

Do you like to cook or you

  1115. 38:33

I do like to cook. I do. And I fed all

  1116. 38:35

these children. Well, you know, I was

  1117. 38:37

doing comedy on the weekends, but I was

  1118. 38:39

tending to them and cooking and Yeah.

  1119. 38:42

    I've always loved that

  1120. 38:44

and you know, being a mama.

  1121. 38:45

    Yeah.

  1122. 38:46

    Yeah.

  1123. 38:46

Yeah. I know. It's such this lovely way

  1124. 38:48

in which you talk about your family like

  1125. 38:50

you're really you're all very close and

  1126. 38:52

it I bet this happens a lot is people

  1127. 38:54

    feel like they know you

  1128. 38:56

like right away. So when you're doing

  1129. 38:58

your shows, what do people come up and

  1130. 39:01

say to you? Like how do you how are your

  1131. 39:03

    fans interact with you?

  1132. 39:05

Oh my gosh, Amy, they like I get I go on

  1133. 39:07

stage and they throw their purse in the

  1134. 39:09

air. I ain't even said anything. I think

  1135. 39:12

and it and at first it messed with my

  1136. 39:14

head when I got my first big big panty

  1137. 39:16

tour is what I called it cuz I love a

  1138. 39:18

    big panty

  1139. 39:20

and they would like just at me and I

  1140. 39:24

think it's because they felt ignored and

  1141. 39:25

I was like the only person speaking to

  1142. 39:27

them and it made me feel I should have

  1143. 39:30

gone into therapy because I thought I

  1144. 39:31

need to go home with every one of them

  1145. 39:32

and clean their house and vacuum out

  1146. 39:34

their car cuz they were so precious to

  1147. 39:36

me. But this is what they say to me.

  1148. 39:37

They go, "Oh my gosh, that is my baby

  1149. 39:39

child. That is I'm married to Chuck

  1150. 39:41

Morgan. This is Chuck. This is my middle

  1151. 39:45

child. Yes, they all say that to me.

  1152. 39:48

Yes. I have to say, Leanne, in in all

  1153. 39:50

seriousness, like when I I came across

  1154. 39:53

most I knew of you, but came across most

  1155. 39:55

of your work during the pandemic on Tik

  1156. 39:57

    Tok.

  1157. 39:58

    You did?

  1158. 39:59

Yes. And I thought, "Oh, my phone is

  1159. 40:02

really getting to know me. Like, my

  1160. 40:03

phone now really knows what I like.

  1161. 40:05

Like, this is exactly what I want." And

  1162. 40:09

that is the feeling that people get when

  1163. 40:11

they watch you perform is they feel

  1164. 40:13

seen. They really do. They feel seen.

  1165. 40:16

They feel like there's some version of

  1166. 40:18

    them that doesn't get

  1167. 40:20

spoken of or spoken to. And and you

  1168. 40:23

talked about it a little bit and I

  1169. 40:24

really agree with you like there's this

  1170. 40:26

whole group of people that are looking

  1171. 40:29

to be entertained and to spend money and

  1172. 40:32

to come to your show. And I think not

  1173. 40:35

just women, men and women, but they're

  1174. 40:37

    often ignored.

  1175. 40:38

    Uh-huh. I know that's what it was. I do.

  1176. 40:40

And I And I feel like on Netflix, my

  1177. 40:44

    special,

  1178. 40:45

which was a huge hit, by the way.

  1179. 40:47

Thank you. Thank you. And who who knew

  1180. 40:49

that was going to be that? Do we

  1181. 40:51

should we brag about how many people was

  1182. 40:52

    it? What was it?

  1183. 40:54

    Millions.

  1184. 40:55

    Millions.

  1185. 40:56

    Millions and millions. Huge hit.

  1186. 40:58

And I was not expecting that. I really

  1187. 41:00

    wasn't. I couldn't believe that Netflix

  1188. 41:02

was going to give me. I have one other

  1189. 41:03

special that somebody put on Hulu. I

  1190. 41:06

don't even know who. And I have a very

  1191. 41:08

unfortunate hair color in it. And I

  1192. 41:09

    won't I don't want I'm not even going to

  1193. 41:11

    say what it's called

  1194. 41:12

    because it is so awful.

  1195. 41:14

What is the color? It's Is it a blonde

  1196. 41:16

    that went on?

  1197. 41:17

It is a blonde that had no dimension.

  1198. 41:20

We've all That was the color of that

  1199. 41:22

yellow mustard. I want to take I got to

  1200. 41:24

go get my roots done and I want to take

  1201. 41:26

your blonde in for a a a demo because

  1202. 41:30

I'm really liking your blonde. And for

  1203. 41:32

those of you out there, it's not easy

  1204. 41:33

    being blonde.

  1205. 41:35

    It's a lot of work.

  1206. 41:36

    A lot of work.

  1207. 41:37

    It's constantly in the chair.

  1208. 41:39

It's constantly. And now that I'm older,

  1209. 41:42

white comes out all or gray comes out

  1210. 41:45

all the time. And I don't know what I'm

  1211. 41:46

putting on my head. But it's Tennessee.

  1212. 41:49

Tennessee girls know how to do blonde. I

  1213. 41:51

swear, Amy. everywhere I go. And when I

  1214. 41:54

was in LA doing that TV series, they

  1215. 41:55

were like, "Who is doing your color?" It

  1216. 41:57

is a darling little girl in Tennessee

  1217. 42:00

who knows how to do blonde.

  1218. 42:02

Some one day I tried to calculate how

  1219. 42:04

many hours I've been in the hair chair

  1220. 42:06

getting my hair dyed blonde and it was

  1221. 42:10

many days in a row. Like it was like

  1222. 42:13

    couple weeks.

  1223. 42:14

Somebody told me what I spent in a year.

  1224. 42:17

    Let's

  1225. 42:17

We couldn't tell Chuck Morgan cuz I have

  1226. 42:19

two girls and I was getting their hair

  1227. 42:21

highlighted. Honey, cuz I'm from the

  1228. 42:22

south. I mean, I'm not an animal.

  1229. 42:24

I was getting their stuff there. We were

  1230. 42:27

    getting spray tans, whatnot.

  1231. 42:29

    Sure. Of course.

  1232. 42:30

Uh-huh. But when I did the movie with

  1233. 42:32

Little Reese Witherspoon and Will Frell,

  1234. 42:34

she looked at me and said, "You need

  1235. 42:35

dimension in your hair." I still had

  1236. 42:37

that terrible hair color and I and I

  1237. 42:40

thought it was pretty and it was like

  1238. 42:42

the color of mustard, no dimension. And

  1239. 42:45

she just looked up at me, you know,

  1240. 42:46

    she's about right here, beautiful.

  1241. 42:49

She went, "You need some dimension in

  1242. 42:50

    your hair." So,

  1243. 42:52

and you said hi. Nice to meet you.

  1244. 42:54

Nice to meet you, little Reese

  1245. 42:56

    Witherspoon.

  1246. 42:57

How was it doing that film with with

  1247. 42:58

    Will and Re?

  1248. 42:59

Well, I thought I was going to get the

  1249. 43:00

shingles cuz it was my first movie and I

  1250. 43:03

had the shingles. I have had the

  1251. 43:04

shingles shot, which I thought was going

  1252. 43:06

to kill me in a hotel room in Nashville,

  1253. 43:08

Tennessee before I got on an airplane.

  1254. 43:10

    That's a booger. That

  1255. 43:12

    one is a big one.

  1256. 43:13

But everybody needs it because I've had

  1257. 43:15

    shingles twice, honey.

  1258. 43:16

    Oh.

  1259. 43:17

Oh god. Shingles is the worst.

  1260. 43:19

The worst. And we are the chickenpox

  1261. 43:22

generation. Like we all had chickenpox.

  1262. 43:23

    Have you ever had it?

  1263. 43:24

No. Because I was so afraid of getting

  1264. 43:26

the shingles that I got the shingles

  1265. 43:27

    vaccine. And it's for life. It's a

  1266. 43:29

    shingles vac.

  1267. 43:29

Oh, we don't have to get it again. N.

  1268. 43:31

    Oh hallelujah honey.

  1269. 43:33

    It's a big one. I think that's why it's

  1270. 43:34

    a big one.

  1271. 43:34

It's a book, too. You got the two one?

  1272. 43:36

Yeah. You have to go a second time. And

  1273. 43:38

that is hard to remember to remember to

  1274. 43:41

get the second one. Have you had your

  1275. 43:42

    colonoscopy?

  1276. 43:43

Oh, yeah. I get those all the time.

  1277. 43:45

    Oh, yeah. They're

  1278. 43:45

because I've always had IBS, my darling.

  1279. 43:48

    So, I started getting those

  1280. 43:49

and then how great are the drugs right

  1281. 43:51

before you go out. Wonderful. Right

  1282. 43:53

before you go out, you're like, just

  1283. 43:55

    wait one more second.

  1284. 43:56

    Can I lay here?

  1285. 43:58

Just talk a little bit more about Yeah.

  1286. 44:00

It's the best feeling in the world. Um,

  1287. 44:02

but and and we're old enough now to get

  1288. 44:04

the pneumonia shot. Are you going to get

  1289. 44:06

    that?

  1290. 44:06

Um, I guess so. When do Okay, I'll be

  1291. 44:09

    50. Well, I'll be 60 in October.

  1292. 44:12

    Incredible. You look incredible.

  1293. 44:14

60 is the new 30. Yeah.

  1294. 44:17

What are you going to do for your 60th

  1295. 44:19

    birthday?

  1296. 44:19

I think I'm going to go on a vacation

  1297. 44:21

with these grandb babies and my

  1298. 44:23

    children.

  1299. 44:24

You know, I'm not at the point where I

  1300. 44:25

can hire Earth, Wind, and Fire yet, but

  1301. 44:28

    I think I'm going to go I think I'm

  1302. 44:29

going to go on vacation with all these

  1303. 44:31

    babies.

  1304. 44:32

That's nice. That must be really I mean

  1305. 44:35

I I a lot of friends in my uh my life

  1306. 44:37

are turning 60 and it feels like it's

  1307. 44:39

    kind of it feels

  1308. 44:40

it's an interesting birthday. Like it

  1309. 44:43

    feels like

  1310. 44:44

I know cuz I thought 50 I you took to

  1311. 44:46

the bed over that. That was wonderful.

  1312. 44:48

    That was wonderful.

  1313. 44:50

Well, then maybe we must if we if we're

  1314. 44:52

to learn anything from her 50s, which to

  1315. 44:54

me is teaching me that the best is yet

  1316. 44:56

to come, then we should continue that

  1317. 44:58

    lesson in her 60s, right?

  1318. 45:00

    Yes.

  1319. 45:01

    I know.

  1320. 45:02

But like little Maria Shrivever, you see

  1321. 45:04

her on and she's thriving. Got on cute

  1322. 45:06

    chains.

  1323. 45:08

We just need So we need to stack our

  1324. 45:10

chains. We need to stack our bracelets.

  1325. 45:12

That's what we need. More jewelry.

  1326. 45:13

We need more jewelry. We don't even care

  1327. 45:16

    about jewelry.

  1328. 45:16

Well, you wear a lot of big earrings. Do

  1329. 45:18

    you like big earrings?

  1330. 45:19

    Um, I was during the

  1331. 45:21

I was during the big panty tour before I

  1332. 45:24

    had a stylist.

  1333. 45:25

    Okay.

  1334. 45:26

    Now, these women tell me,

  1335. 45:28

    "No,

  1336. 45:28

    pull it back."

  1337. 45:29

    Yeah, I made some missteps.

  1338. 45:32

    I was dressing myself.

  1339. 45:34

    Of course,

  1340. 45:35

honey. I always had on a girl, but I was

  1341. 45:38

making I was doing some missteps. And I

  1342. 45:40

was also inflamed after COVID. And when

  1343. 45:44

my tour went like gang busters because

  1344. 45:46

    everybody wanted to go somewhere.

  1345. 45:48

    Yeah. Exactly.

  1346. 45:49

There are pictures of me and I'm sweaty

  1347. 45:53

looking. I had drank wine and eating

  1348. 45:55

    chicken pot pie during co

  1349. 45:57

    Right.

  1350. 45:57

And my breast were like two feed sacks.

  1351. 46:02

I'm trying to do better. I really And

  1352. 46:04

people said to me, you've got to train

  1353. 46:05

like you're in the Olympics to tour. And

  1354. 46:07

    I'm, you know, I'm I'm got like 70 days

  1355. 46:10

between now and November. So I had

  1356. 46:12

Are you going on tour in November?

  1357. 46:14

I I'm touring now and I'll tour until

  1358. 46:16

    November.

  1359. 46:17

Okay. What? Talk to me about your tour

  1360. 46:19

cuz Tina and I have been on a tour and I

  1361. 46:22

    saw that.

  1362. 46:23

Similarly, like you're on the Big Panty

  1363. 46:25

tour. We're doing a restless leg tour. I

  1364. 46:28

feel like we're covering a lot of the

  1365. 46:30

    same women

  1366. 46:32

    and

  1367. 46:33

    I know. I wish I could be with y'all.

  1368. 46:34

I know. And being on tour is strenuous

  1369. 46:37

even though you think people are like

  1370. 46:39

but what what's your routine? What do

  1371. 46:41

you do? Don't do you know do you

  1372. 46:44

Well, I quit. I really really tried not

  1373. 46:47

to. I was drinking alcohol during the

  1374. 46:49

big panty. Now this tour this the just

  1375. 46:52

getting started tour. And I tell people

  1376. 46:54

I named it that because I just feel like

  1377. 46:55

    I'm getting started

  1378. 46:57

in my 50s and and women throw their

  1379. 46:59

purse there. But I'm really am trying to

  1380. 47:02

eat better and I and I and when I put

  1381. 47:05

that darn luggage down, I should go in

  1382. 47:07

    that gym.

  1383. 47:08

Amen. And I don't want to.

  1384. 47:10

I mean, there's no Is there anything

  1385. 47:11

    sadder than repacking

  1386. 47:15

the exercise that you brought that you

  1387. 47:18

didn't use and pretending like, "Oh, I

  1388. 47:20

didn't know I had them in here. That's

  1389. 47:21

    so weird."

  1390. 47:22

I do that every knew I brought my

  1391. 47:24

sneakers, I would have went to the gym.

  1392. 47:25

But just like, who are we kidding?

  1393. 47:27

I do the same thing. And then I started

  1394. 47:29

    packing like my own bands.

  1395. 47:31

    Oh, never took them out.

  1396. 47:33

    Never take

  1397. 47:35

You can put them on a hotel door.

  1398. 47:37

    Hotel door. Do that.

  1399. 47:38

    Not once.

  1400. 47:39

Um, but I try to I do have to have a

  1401. 47:42

comedy nap. Even if I don't lay down and

  1402. 47:44

sleep, I just have to stare into space

  1403. 47:46

to get my mind right in a hotel room.

  1404. 47:49

Then we go and do soundcheck. I hate

  1405. 47:52

    cheese. And I shouldn't. I always have a

  1406. 47:54

little bit of cheese. A gluten-free

  1407. 47:56

    cracker.

  1408. 47:57

    Mhm. Who am I kidding?

  1409. 48:00

A little ranch damp, some carrots.

  1410. 48:05

And then do you like Do you ever have

  1411. 48:07

You probably don't have any like

  1412. 48:08

hecklers that you have to deal with.

  1413. 48:09

No. Every once in a while there'll be

  1414. 48:11

some little drunk woman that yells out

  1415. 48:12

C-section or you know wanting to be

  1416. 48:14

    heard.

  1417. 48:15

That's exactly what we didn't have the

  1418. 48:17

whole tour. Knock on wood. We had the

  1419. 48:19

nicest crowd and then one time there was

  1420. 48:21

a lady who was a little drunk. Like it

  1421. 48:23

was like a 600 p.m. show by the way.

  1422. 48:24

Could we try to do like four or six

  1423. 48:26

    shows? I do fours.

  1424. 48:27

    I love a four.

  1425. 48:28

    I do a seven. If I add, it's a four, not

  1426. 48:31

    a 10.

  1427. 48:31

Never. No way. Where are we? And a woman

  1428. 48:34

one time was like just chatting and then

  1429. 48:36

said like, "Amy, Amy." And I was like,

  1430. 48:38

"Yeah." And she was like, "Hi."

  1431. 48:40

She said, "Hi." It was so nice.

  1432. 48:44

Yeah. I get nice people. They don't mean

  1433. 48:46

anything ugly. They just yell out stuff.

  1434. 48:49

Yeah, girl. Yeah, girl. You know, and

  1435. 48:52

you hear like I can't think. What was I

  1436. 48:54

saying? And I just say now what was I

  1437. 48:56

saying? And then you know a woman will

  1438. 48:58

yell out bingle, you know, and I can

  1439. 49:01

keep going. That's what's sweet about

  1440. 49:03

people my age watching me cuz they're

  1441. 49:06

like they can't think of their name

  1442. 49:07

either. So we're all in this together.

  1443. 49:09

Everyone's like, "Where do we park?

  1444. 49:11

Where do we park?" And eating popcorn

  1445. 49:13

    bloated.

  1446. 49:14

    I can't eat popcorn.

  1447. 49:16

I love it. Does it bloat you?

  1448. 49:18

It gives me heartburn and I get I

  1449. 49:21

I'm nervous about choking. Oh, I just

  1450. 49:24

now I choke all the time.

  1451. 49:26

I'm nervous about choking. I get very

  1452. 49:28

nervous. I feel like in general I've

  1453. 49:30

turned into a toddler where I look at

  1454. 49:32

food and I'm like, "That's going to not

  1455. 49:34

go. That's not going to get down there."

  1456. 49:35

    Hot dog. Grape

  1457. 49:37

grape tomatoes. Grape tomatoes. No way.

  1458. 49:41

    No way.

  1459. 49:42

Do you? Because I do I get to where I

  1460. 49:44

cough and and I'll cough in a

  1461. 49:46

restaurant, get choked, and my kids will

  1462. 49:48

    go,

  1463. 49:49

"You want to hear another depressing

  1464. 49:50

statistic? More women die from choking

  1465. 49:53

than men because they walk away from the

  1466. 49:56

table cuz they don't want to bother

  1467. 49:57

    anybody.

  1468. 50:00

    I'm so sorry.

  1469. 50:00

    So, nobody can even

  1470. 50:02

    It's the most It's like they're like,

  1471. 50:04

    "Don't worry, I got this. I'll I'll I'll

  1472. 50:06

give myself the himlick." And they die.

  1473. 50:11

What kind of sleeper are you? Are you

  1474. 50:13

good? Like, how are you how's your

  1475. 50:14

    sleep?

  1476. 50:15

    I'm prioritizing my sleep.

  1477. 50:17

Same. in this show business world

  1478. 50:19

because I had to learn lines for that

  1479. 50:21

    sitcom and I realized then I thought I I

  1480. 50:24

got to be sharp. I got to know what in

  1481. 50:26

the world I'm saying. So I do like to

  1482. 50:28

take a little melatonin some kind of

  1483. 50:31

blend with a you know um GABA elanine.

  1484. 50:36

    Wait what?

  1485. 50:38

    Gaba what?

  1486. 50:39

    GABA and elthenine. Okay.

  1487. 50:42

If you take one of those and you can get

  1488. 50:44

them over the counter, but just if you

  1489. 50:46

if you have a combination of thing like

  1490. 50:48

chamomile or it's got it's got to have

  1491. 50:50

    more than melatonin in it.

  1492. 50:51

    Okay.

  1493. 50:52

    And sometimes I take non-melatonin. I'm

  1494. 50:54

always buying sleep things because I

  1495. 50:57

don't want to get hooked on pills.

  1496. 50:58

Yeah. You can't take a sleeping pill. I

  1497. 51:00

mean, and you know, it's so funny. You

  1498. 51:02

talk to boomers and they're like, I

  1499. 51:03

don't take sleeping pills. I just take

  1500. 51:04

two Tylenol PAs every night. And you're

  1501. 51:06

    like ma'am

  1502. 51:09

    that's

  1503. 51:09

I know. And then people say, I take

  1504. 51:10

benadryil. I think does that cause

  1505. 51:12

    Alzheimer's?

  1506. 51:13

You're not supposed to take I know

  1507. 51:15

that anything that knocks you out.

  1508. 51:16

You're not supposed I do look at screens

  1509. 51:18

    at night and I shouldn't.

  1510. 51:19

Same. I love my phone. My phone is my

  1511. 51:21

    best friend.

  1512. 51:22

I love to scroll and look and see

  1513. 51:25

and then but I really try I like I have

  1514. 51:28

a sleep mask on. I have my Invisalign

  1515. 51:30

    tray in.

  1516. 51:31

I have to keep it on.

  1517. 51:33

    I like 65 to 67° at night.

  1518. 51:36

    I love a cold room.

  1519. 51:37

    A cold room.

  1520. 51:38

Yeah. What does Chuck think of that?

  1521. 51:40

He's freezing. It's freezing in here.

  1522. 51:43

And he doesn't like to spend the money

  1523. 51:44

because Chuck Morgan is very tight

  1524. 51:48

money person. He He's a numbers person.

  1525. 51:51

Okay. So, he does the numbers.

  1526. 51:52

    He does the numbers.

  1527. 52:00

When this comes out, your show will be

  1528. 52:02

coming out in a couple of days.

  1529. 52:03

    Congratulations.

  1530. 52:04

    You my darling.

  1531. 52:05

Chuck Lori is the producer. Um, you are

  1532. 52:10

    uh it's on Netflix. It's a multicam.

  1533. 52:12

    Multicam

  1534. 52:14

    loosely based on your life.

  1535. 52:16

It's based on my comedy, but not my life

  1536. 52:19

because we thought that would be weird.

  1537. 52:21

But let me tell you that the premise is

  1538. 52:24

my husband walks off and leaves me after

  1539. 52:26

30ome years of marriage. And now I'm

  1540. 52:28

sitting here. What in the world am I

  1541. 52:30

going to do? And I cannot tell you how

  1542. 52:32

many fans said Chuck Morgan doesn't

  1543. 52:34

deserve you. I knew this would happen.

  1544. 52:36

He sucks. He's kept you down long

  1545. 52:38

enough. He's jealous. And I was like,

  1546. 52:41

whoa, no, that's not what's happening.

  1547. 52:43

My own little daddy got a call from one

  1548. 52:45

of his friends who was in his 90s and

  1549. 52:47

said, "I'm so sorry that they're

  1550. 52:49

getting" And I said, "Daddy, yeah." And

  1551. 52:51

I go, "Daddy, Beverly Hillbilly isn't

  1552. 52:53

true either. This is not true." But um

  1553. 52:58

but it is based on my comedy and my

  1554. 53:01

    sensibility. Mhm.

  1555. 53:02

So when Chuck Lorie came to me and sat

  1556. 53:05

on my back porch and held my grandbaby

  1557. 53:07

and said, "Will you do this with me?" I

  1558. 53:09

was like, "What?" And then Netflix, I

  1559. 53:13

mean, has been so good to me and has

  1560. 53:15

given me these Netflix standup specials,

  1561. 53:17

    Amy.

  1562. 53:18

    And that's the stamp.

  1563. 53:20

But they better, Leanne. You're crushing

  1564. 53:22

it. They better give you those specials.

  1565. 53:23

    They're lucky to have you.

  1566. 53:24

    Oh, you angel. Thank you.

  1567. 53:26

It's true. Like you're you earned it.

  1568. 53:28

    You're selling out everywhere. You're

  1569. 53:30

    huge.

  1570. 53:31

    Oh, my darling.

  1571. 53:32

They pay you a gazillion dollars for

  1572. 53:34

them. They're so Whoever like I mean

  1573. 53:36

    they're they're super popular. You're so

  1574. 53:39

you're such a fresh voice. And so in

  1575. 53:42

this show, you have great cast members

  1576. 53:44

    that you're working

  1577. 53:45

    Kristen Johnston.

  1578. 53:46

Okay. So Kristen was the person that we

  1579. 53:49

talked to today. We always like to talk

  1580. 53:51

well behind people's backs before we

  1581. 53:53

interview them. So we talked to Kristen

  1582. 53:54

    today.

  1583. 53:55

And we got a question from Kristen to

  1584. 53:58

ask you. She's so great. Oh my gosh,

  1585. 54:00

honey. A pro and was so good to me and I

  1586. 54:03

learned a lot from her. I went in that

  1587. 54:04

thing terrified. I didn't know how all

  1588. 54:06

    that worked.

  1589. 54:07

    Yeah,

  1590. 54:08

honey. The first three weeks, first

  1591. 54:09

three episodes, I I said to my baby

  1592. 54:11

Tess, who was living with me, I can't do

  1593. 54:14

this. What is this? And she was like,

  1594. 54:16

"You're going to give me the shingles."

  1595. 54:18

I was hysterical. But I, you know, it

  1596. 54:20

    was just terrifying.

  1597. 54:21

    You're like learning everything new.

  1598. 54:23

Camera blocking. What? What is that? A

  1599. 54:26

    script. All of that. crafty,

  1600. 54:29

right? All these terms. But don't you

  1601. 54:31

feel, I know this, don't you feel like

  1602. 54:33

life is just a series of

  1603. 54:36

terms to keep you out of the room and

  1604. 54:39

then once you learn the terms, you're in

  1605. 54:40

the room. Like it's like now you know

  1606. 54:42

    the terms and

  1607. 54:43

    I guess so

  1608. 54:44

because you are the prize. You have all

  1609. 54:46

of the goods. Like like the kitchen

  1610. 54:48

changes, but you have the food.

  1611. 54:52

    Well,

  1612. 54:52

I mean you you're nothing without the

  1613. 54:54

food. So you have all the food. You're

  1614. 54:56

just talking about getting to know

  1615. 54:57

another kitchen, but you you know what,

  1616. 54:59

a week of learning the terms and now you

  1617. 55:01

    got it.

  1618. 55:02

Oh, Amy, did you pay attention to

  1619. 55:03

    school?

  1620. 55:04

    You are so smart.

  1621. 55:07

Well, I didn't get best looking. And

  1622. 55:09

let's just put it that way. I didn't get

  1623. 55:10

best looking. Okay. Um, so Kristen's um

  1624. 55:15

question was, "What did you think of

  1625. 55:16

    LA?" Like, you're talking about

  1626. 55:18

Hollywood and it being a a a idea in

  1627. 55:22

your mind since you were young. You knew

  1628. 55:24

you wanted to get there and you get

  1629. 55:25

there. Was it what you thought it would

  1630. 55:27

    be?

  1631. 55:28

At first, I'll be honest, when I got

  1632. 55:29

there, I was kind of scared. I I'm not

  1633. 55:32

    used to that traffic.

  1634. 55:33

    Mhm.

  1635. 55:34

We were in a in Knoxville, Tennessee.

  1636. 55:36

And it was and I knew that weather was

  1637. 55:39

going to be beautiful and I always loved

  1638. 55:40

that and I loved the house that I rented

  1639. 55:42

and it was very Hollywood Hills kind of

  1640. 55:44

    looking

  1641. 55:45

and I was tickled over that. But the

  1642. 55:47

    fires came, we got evacuated.

  1643. 55:50

    Yeah.

  1644. 55:50

And we got robbed. Our rental house got

  1645. 55:53

robbed by these acrobatic people. They

  1646. 55:56

found them on film and they climbed they

  1647. 55:59

shimmyed and climbed up each other's

  1648. 56:00

shoulders and the people who we rented

  1649. 56:02

from said, "We don't want you to see the

  1650. 56:04

video. It'll freak you out." But they

  1651. 56:05

were like acrobat people. And the good

  1652. 56:08

news is we didn't I was working Palm

  1653. 56:10

Springs had a show that night. So they

  1654. 56:12

cased us out is what the criminals call

  1655. 56:15

it. must have seen an Amazon package of

  1656. 56:18

    a supplement

  1657. 56:20

and then said, "Let's get her." But it

  1658. 56:22

was me and my baby. And we didn't have

  1659. 56:24

anything valuable out there. She had a

  1660. 56:25

    bunch of Amazon earrings, right?

  1661. 56:27

They wanted dope earrings is what they

  1662. 56:30

told us in guns. Well, we don't have

  1663. 56:31

guns. And then they took all they looked

  1664. 56:34

at her medicine and it was like yeast

  1665. 56:35

infection, thyroid. She goes, "I bet

  1666. 56:38

they looked in here and thought, who are

  1667. 56:41

these pitiful sick people? me all my

  1668. 56:44

    supplements. They didn't get anything

  1669. 56:48

and so it really didn't freak me out.

  1670. 56:50

    Yeah, of course.

  1671. 56:51

But what by the time we were leaving, we

  1672. 56:53

were out there seven months. I grieved

  1673. 56:55

    when I left. I really

  1674. 56:58

thought it was sweet and there and I

  1675. 57:00

realized this cuz you when you're in the

  1676. 57:02

middle of the United States are like

  1677. 57:03

    California, you know,

  1678. 57:06

everybody was precious. It is a

  1679. 57:07

workingass town. People were precious to

  1680. 57:10

me. And then all these men on the set

  1681. 57:13

because I like to flirt and I love old

  1682. 57:16

    men

  1683. 57:18

and they were like looking up real

  1684. 57:20

estate in Tennessee. Like some of them,

  1685. 57:22

you know, were in their 50s and never

  1686. 57:23

married. I go, "Oh, if you moved to

  1687. 57:25

Tennessee, everybody would want to breed

  1688. 57:27

with you." And so they're all going,

  1689. 57:29

    "Where's Morristown, Tennessee land?

  1690. 57:32

    Here's a house for 400,000 that's, you

  1691. 57:34

know, got three bedrooms." And so, and I

  1692. 57:37

did like for all the men to eat crafty.

  1693. 57:39

Southern women like to see men eat and

  1694. 57:41

so they would say, "No, you go first."

  1695. 57:43

I'm go, "No, you go first. Let me watch

  1696. 57:45

    you eat."

  1697. 57:47

So I fell in love with everybody on that

  1698. 57:49

    set.

  1699. 57:50

You're right. I mean, it is I mean

  1700. 57:52

Hollywood in quotes is a working is a

  1701. 57:55

working class na city. Like the people

  1702. 57:58

    on set are all hardworking.

  1703. 58:00

    Hardwork darling.

  1704. 58:02

    Yeah, that's right. That's right. I had

  1705. 58:03

a bowl and I fell in love with everybody

  1706. 58:05

and I loved everybody at the grocery

  1707. 58:07

store and I and everybody was sweet and

  1708. 58:09

they go, "Where are you from? Where's

  1709. 58:11

that accent from?" And let me say to

  1710. 58:12

your audience that is huge and you

  1711. 58:15

getting this big old podcast doing. This

  1712. 58:18

is my accent. This is how I really talk.

  1713. 58:20

You know, people think I it's not. But

  1714. 58:23

I'm from farming people. But anyway,

  1715. 58:25

California people thought I was fun.

  1716. 58:27

Yeah, I bet. And people start talking in

  1717. 58:30

your accent back to you a lot. I mean

  1718. 58:32

it's it's been a real struggle for me

  1719. 58:34

not to because I'm I'm that way anyway.

  1720. 58:37

I picked it up a little bit like um I

  1721. 58:41

interviewed Idris Elba recently. I know.

  1722. 58:43

And it was hard for me to not try to

  1723. 58:45

start talking in a British accent like

  1724. 58:47

but you must get that too. You

  1725. 58:48

I do. I get people do and I Yeah, I do.

  1726. 58:52

And and people are fascinated by the

  1727. 58:54

    South. I think

  1728. 58:55

I think so too. What do they get if if

  1729. 58:57

if you had um preconceptions about

  1730. 59:00

California that were wrong? What do

  1731. 59:01

    people get wrong about Tennessee?

  1732. 59:03

Um Ryan Styles plays my husband and he

  1733. 59:06

thought that we all pack guns.

  1734. 59:10

I said, "I've never shot a gun in my

  1735. 59:12

life." He goes, "You surely." I'm like,

  1736. 59:15

"We're not going around packing guns or

  1737. 59:18

holding guns." My people say packing.

  1738. 59:21

He I think he thought we all

  1739. 59:23

have the like the Old West.

  1740. 59:27

And And then people all and I do love

  1741. 59:29

country music. I'm fine, but I'm more of

  1742. 59:30

    an R&B g R&B. But I mean, I think people

  1743. 59:34

think we're all, you know, barefoot.

  1744. 59:38

And I did go to college and I finished.

  1745. 59:41

I will never let you know my GPA, but I

  1746. 59:44

think they, you know, have miscon

  1747. 59:48

But we have, you know, nice universities

  1748. 59:51

and we get our hair done.

  1749. 59:53

You have the best blondes and the best.

  1750. 59:55

We have the best blondes for sure. But

  1751. 59:57

it I I and and I am sad that you got

  1752. 1:00:00

broken into though because that's that

  1753. 1:00:02

is too bad because people do think LA is

  1754. 1:00:05

dangerous and it proved to be.

  1755. 1:00:06

But the the captain of the police

  1756. 1:00:08

    department lived across the street.

  1757. 1:00:10

Darling got to know him. He was like,

  1758. 1:00:12

"Take my cell phone number. Here's some

  1759. 1:00:14

spray. If you're out walking, that's

  1760. 1:00:16

good for animals and people." I was

  1761. 1:00:18

    like "What?"

  1762. 1:00:20

    [Laughter]

  1763. 1:00:22

So, you know, he taught me how to live

  1764. 1:00:24

    out there.

  1765. 1:00:24

Okay. So before we wrap it up, I want to

  1766. 1:00:26

ask a couple rapid fire thoughts. Okay.

  1767. 1:00:30

And see what you think. What's your

  1768. 1:00:32

    favorite holiday?

  1769. 1:00:34

    Thanksgiving.

  1770. 1:00:35

    Me too. I love Thanksgiving.

  1771. 1:00:36

I love Thanksgiving. I love the colors

  1772. 1:00:38

and I love to have I love to go to TJ

  1773. 1:00:40

Maxx and buy little turkeys and pilgrims

  1774. 1:00:42

    to set on a table

  1775. 1:00:44

because you talk a lot about Christmas

  1776. 1:00:45

and the prep that is involved in

  1777. 1:00:48

Christmas and the nightmare that is

  1778. 1:00:50

    Christmas.

  1779. 1:00:50

Oh, the nightmare that is Christmas.

  1780. 1:00:52

It's show and it falls on mama's.

  1781. 1:00:55

    Yeah.

  1782. 1:00:55

And then you take to the bed.

  1783. 1:00:57

    Yeah.

  1784. 1:00:58

And feel sick. Get a sick headache. My

  1785. 1:01:00

mom would say, "I've got a sick

  1786. 1:01:01

headache. I got to lay down." Because

  1787. 1:01:02

you have to wrap all that. Do all that.

  1788. 1:01:04

I love what you said when Chuck asks you

  1789. 1:01:06

on December 24th, "Is there anything I

  1790. 1:01:08

    can do?

  1791. 1:01:11

How can I help on December 24th?"

  1792. 1:01:13

And then usually I have to do sexual

  1793. 1:01:14

    favors to get any help.

  1794. 1:01:17

while you're doing all that and cooking

  1795. 1:01:20

and doing and then you got to do it

  1796. 1:01:24

and then get all that ready.

  1797. 1:01:25

Speaking of Tylenol PM, I'm having a

  1798. 1:01:27

    flashback that I was hosting

  1799. 1:01:29

Thanksgiving. I thought I had taken two

  1800. 1:01:31

Tylenol. I took two Tylenol PM

  1801. 1:01:35

and I was like, "Oh no, I'm going down.

  1802. 1:01:37

I just had to take like a 4-hour nap in

  1803. 1:01:39

    the middle of

  1804. 1:01:40

    Thanksgiving."

  1805. 1:01:42

    Yeah, it wasn't so bad.

  1806. 1:01:44

Um, math. How do you feel about math? I

  1807. 1:01:46

    don't like it, Amy.

  1808. 1:01:48

Yeah. You don't have to do it anymore.

  1809. 1:01:49

I don't have to do it anymore.

  1810. 1:01:50

    No.

  1811. 1:01:51

And I'm so thankful and there are people

  1812. 1:01:52

who can do math for us

  1813. 1:01:54

and I'm thankful. But I say in my act in

  1814. 1:01:57

that first special, Chuck Morgan is a

  1815. 1:01:59

math like genius. And then he bred with

  1816. 1:02:01

me. We have three children. Can't do

  1817. 1:02:03

math. They took after me. But they're

  1818. 1:02:05

    fun, you know.

  1819. 1:02:07

    Yeah,

  1820. 1:02:07

they're fun. They can play the banjo, do

  1821. 1:02:10

    makeup. Fun.

  1822. 1:02:12

Um, what about Have you ever seen a

  1823. 1:02:13

ghost? Do you believe in ghosts? I do

  1824. 1:02:16

believe that there are demons. Amy,

  1825. 1:02:21

    let me tell you,

  1826. 1:02:24

I was in a comedy club, Birmingham,

  1827. 1:02:26

Alabama, Stardome. They have a bunch of

  1828. 1:02:29

theaters in there. I was doing the main

  1829. 1:02:32

stage. There was a girl that goes around

  1830. 1:02:35

comedy clubs and talks to dead people.

  1831. 1:02:37

    Ah, like a medium.

  1832. 1:02:38

Medium. And she was cute as she could

  1833. 1:02:40

be. She was sitting in the green room

  1834. 1:02:42

with us. And she said, we were all

  1835. 1:02:43

sitting there. It's kind of awkward. And

  1836. 1:02:45

she goes, "Oh, they're in here right

  1837. 1:02:47

now. There's dead people in here." And I

  1838. 1:02:49

go in this green room with a bad sofa

  1839. 1:02:54

with a half bottle of ketchup

  1840. 1:02:57

    watching um

  1841. 1:03:00

what was that show? Heidi Cloon was on

  1842. 1:03:02

    it with that little

  1843. 1:03:03

    Project Runway.

  1844. 1:03:03

Project Runway. I go, "All right, so if

  1845. 1:03:06

I die, I'm gonna have to walk around

  1846. 1:03:10

    this

  1847. 1:03:11

in this green room watching Project

  1848. 1:03:14

Runway with a half bottle of ketchup."

  1849. 1:03:17

    But she said, "Yes."

  1850. 1:03:19

I mean, isn't it convenient though that

  1851. 1:03:21

whenever the medium is around, the

  1852. 1:03:24

spirits are also they don't say, "No,

  1853. 1:03:26

there's nothing in here." Oh, it's

  1854. 1:03:28

great. Um, Gen X, why are we the best

  1855. 1:03:30

    generation?

  1856. 1:03:32

I think because we have sins. I think

  1857. 1:03:34

we've still got sense. Not that young

  1858. 1:03:36

people don't have sense, but there's

  1859. 1:03:38

some grit. I think there's grit left in

  1860. 1:03:40

there where, you know, we had to work.

  1861. 1:03:43

Like, I had to do terrible jobs, but I

  1862. 1:03:45

think that makes grit. I think we're the

  1863. 1:03:47

ones that have got grit, but still

  1864. 1:03:49

    open-minded. Can I say that?

  1865. 1:03:51

I think so. I mean, no one's paying

  1866. 1:03:53

attention to us anyway, so we can say

  1867. 1:03:55

whatever we want. That's the thing about

  1868. 1:03:56

Gen X. Did you cry at your son's

  1869. 1:03:58

    wedding?

  1870. 1:03:58

Yes. Like, I I died over and I love my

  1871. 1:04:02

daughter-in-law. Yeah. But I was jealous

  1872. 1:04:04

of her. I'll just say it because he was

  1873. 1:04:06

my baby. That's my boy. And then you

  1874. 1:04:09

have to hand him over and it's hard. But

  1875. 1:04:12

then you realize, oh, I'm getting now

  1876. 1:04:14

    another child

  1877. 1:04:16

and she's going to have these babies for

  1878. 1:04:18

me and I get to have his babies.

  1879. 1:04:20

He's going to have these babies for me.

  1880. 1:04:22

    For me.

  1881. 1:04:22

    I like that.

  1882. 1:04:23

    And those are my babies.

  1883. 1:04:25

Um, and why do you love the Today Show?

  1884. 1:04:27

Oh my gosh, I love the I like to sit in

  1885. 1:04:29

my gown and I like to drink coffee and I

  1886. 1:04:32

like to see who the celebrities who

  1887. 1:04:34

they're going to have on and um I just

  1888. 1:04:36

over the years I love little Kathy Lee,

  1889. 1:04:39

    you know, drinking wine, talking?

  1890. 1:04:41

Yeah, there's been so many hosts that

  1891. 1:04:42

have come through. Did you were you

  1892. 1:04:44

there for like did you feel really sad

  1893. 1:04:46

    when Hoda left?

  1894. 1:04:47

I felt so sad when Hoda left. Is she not

  1895. 1:04:50

    a light?

  1896. 1:04:50

    Yeah, she seems wonderful.

  1897. 1:04:52

But I got interviewed by her right

  1898. 1:04:53

before she left. She was leaving and I

  1899. 1:04:55

    love her and little Jana.

  1900. 1:04:57

    Yummy.

  1901. 1:04:57

You were so funny and great with her

  1902. 1:04:59

recently. You guys were so great

  1903. 1:05:01

    together and she's so lovely.

  1904. 1:05:02

    She's so darling. She really

  1905. 1:05:05

And I found myself saying at the end I

  1906. 1:05:06

went tell your mom and daddy. I said,

  1907. 1:05:08

"Hey." She went, "Okay." It's the

  1908. 1:05:10

    president.

  1909. 1:05:11

Yeah. I played so down to earth. I I

  1910. 1:05:14

    played her on SNL.

  1911. 1:05:16

You did? Wait. and I did a Bush Twin

  1912. 1:05:19

sketch and we talked about it and she

  1913. 1:05:21

was so fy anyone who has a sense of

  1914. 1:05:23

humor about themselves like it's pretty

  1915. 1:05:26

    that's like anyone who can

  1916. 1:05:28

and she talks about I had a ball in cuz

  1917. 1:05:30

we talk about our college days she had a

  1918. 1:05:32

    ball

  1919. 1:05:32

she had a ball in college

  1920. 1:05:34

and she'll talk about it which I think

  1921. 1:05:35

    is cute agree agree

  1922. 1:05:38

and um what do you think is the best

  1923. 1:05:40

word to say in your accent like what

  1924. 1:05:43

    sounds the best

  1925. 1:05:46

    butthole has been a favorite.

  1926. 1:05:51

    I love it.

  1927. 1:05:52

    Mhm.

  1928. 1:05:53

    Butthole. Um,

  1929. 1:05:57

    Kristen said Cracker Barrel.

  1930. 1:05:59

    I love Cracker Barrel.

  1931. 1:06:00

    Cracker Barrel.

  1932. 1:06:01

And And that's We talk about that in our

  1933. 1:06:03

show. We've got a scene where Kristen

  1934. 1:06:05

Johnston uh imitates me saying Cracker

  1935. 1:06:08

    Barrel.

  1936. 1:06:09

I'm like, we're going to Cracker Barrel

  1937. 1:06:10

and I love a Cracker Barrel. And you

  1938. 1:06:12

talking about after a colonoscopy when

  1939. 1:06:14

you are empty and weak. Go to

  1940. 1:06:17

go to Cracker Barrel and get the

  1941. 1:06:18

meatloaf with mashed potatoes and fried

  1942. 1:06:20

    okra.

  1943. 1:06:22

Wee. Okay. So, you're on tour right now

  1944. 1:06:24

and then when this comes out, your show

  1945. 1:06:26

will be out and then So, are are people

  1946. 1:06:29

you're going to be balancing doing the

  1947. 1:06:31

    show and touring?

  1948. 1:06:33

Yes, I did. Yes. That Well, the show

  1949. 1:06:36

will come out and let's hope people like

  1950. 1:06:37

    it.

  1951. 1:06:38

They're going to love it. Leanne,

  1952. 1:06:39

can I ask people to run it while they're

  1953. 1:06:41

    vacuuming in the bag?

  1954. 1:06:42

Just do it over and over. Yes, please.

  1955. 1:06:45

And also the the fact I mean look at how

  1956. 1:06:47

different I mean the fact that you're

  1957. 1:06:50

doing a multicam on a streaming s like

  1958. 1:06:54

the business is so interesting. It's

  1959. 1:06:56

    like

  1960. 1:06:57

and that's what they wanted. They go

  1961. 1:06:59

lean will you please do a multicam cuz

  1962. 1:07:01

see I'm and I've loved sitcoms all my

  1963. 1:07:03

life but then I got into the office in

  1964. 1:07:05

parks and recreation and I was like I

  1965. 1:07:08

would love to do that. That's more my

  1966. 1:07:09

style. Yeah. And they were like, "Well,

  1967. 1:07:11

would you consider doing a multicam?"

  1968. 1:07:13

And you know, I was and they were

  1969. 1:07:16

darling and everybody there I went,

  1970. 1:07:17

    "Okay."

  1971. 1:07:18

And has it been good to hear laughs?

  1972. 1:07:20

Yes. And I realize now that Yes. Like

  1973. 1:07:23

doing the movie if I, you know, improv.

  1974. 1:07:26

Nick Stler would say, "Do it again, Lyn.

  1975. 1:07:28

Like, what are your breasts going to

  1976. 1:07:29

look like when you have a baby?" And you

  1977. 1:07:31

know, and all that and and and then I

  1978. 1:07:33

    wouldn't get a laugh.

  1979. 1:07:34

Nick Stler is a director. He's not a man

  1980. 1:07:35

on the street who just yell that to you.

  1981. 1:07:37

    That's important to know.

  1982. 1:07:40

That doll. I know. I probably

  1983. 1:07:42

embarrassed him to death because I would

  1984. 1:07:43

    ask him questions

  1985. 1:07:45

about my breasts cuz they look so big on

  1986. 1:07:47

    screen. Amy,

  1987. 1:07:48

    they look terrific.

  1988. 1:07:50

Reese Witherspoon's head was the size of

  1989. 1:07:52

    my breast.

  1990. 1:07:52

    How tall are you?

  1991. 1:07:54

58, maybe 5'7 now from shrinking.

  1992. 1:07:58

Um, because you you look like a you look

  1993. 1:08:02

    like a model,

  1994. 1:08:03

Amy. You angel. I'm fat as mud.

  1995. 1:08:07

    No, you're not.

  1996. 1:08:08

    Stomach,

  1997. 1:08:09

    Leanne stop.

  1998. 1:08:11

I've got this stomach and these mama

  1999. 1:08:14

    breasts.

  2000. 1:08:14

No, you don't. You stop that right now.

  2001. 1:08:17

And my neck. When I first saw it, I

  2002. 1:08:19

    thought, whose neck is that?

  2003. 1:08:21

The neck is a thing we're all

  2004. 1:08:22

    struggling. But I don't know. I don't

  2005. 1:08:24

    know what to do because

  2006. 1:08:25

And I don't want to get that surgery

  2007. 1:08:26

where they take your ears off.

  2008. 1:08:31

    I can't do all that.

  2009. 1:08:32

You got to put them back on.

  2010. 1:08:36

I don't want to have to go through

  2011. 1:08:37

surgery if I don't have to now at my

  2012. 1:08:39

    age.

  2013. 1:08:40

Same. And it's you're so right. Like the

  2014. 1:08:42

thing that nobody talks about is they

  2015. 1:08:43

    have to take everything off

  2016. 1:08:46

    and move it around and

  2017. 1:08:48

    ended

  2018. 1:08:49

    like

  2019. 1:08:50

like I'll get micro needling and I have

  2020. 1:08:52

    to hold my knees.

  2021. 1:08:53

    Yeah.

  2022. 1:08:53

It hurts so bad. That's not even a

  2023. 1:08:55

    surgery.

  2024. 1:08:56

I I went to get lasers and I I know that

  2025. 1:08:59

some doctors give nitrous for lasers.

  2026. 1:09:02

I've started sucking on gas. I suck on

  2027. 1:09:04

that gas and then I go through

  2028. 1:09:05

everything that ever happened to me in

  2029. 1:09:06

high school, college, what I'm buying

  2030. 1:09:09

    everybody for Christmas.

  2031. 1:09:11

I think, can they know what I'm

  2032. 1:09:13

thinking? Well, because they would think

  2033. 1:09:15

    I'm psycho.

  2034. 1:09:16

So, don't do nitrous is what we're

  2035. 1:09:18

saying. It's not good. And don't smoke.

  2036. 1:09:21

Don't smoke cigarettes. And I enjoy my

  2037. 1:09:23

    children.

  2038. 1:09:24

Oh, I said I'm Okay, get ready for this

  2039. 1:09:27

cuz you're younger than me. your your

  2040. 1:09:29

grown kids. You talk about fun is your

  2041. 1:09:31

grown children or your best friends so

  2042. 1:09:35

    fun and darling.

  2043. 1:09:36

    Oh, that's so

  2044. 1:09:37

so much to look forward to.

  2045. 1:09:39

Oh, I love to hear that. I mean, Leanne,

  2046. 1:09:41

there's I feel like there's so much to

  2047. 1:09:43

look forward to. And I feel like that is

  2048. 1:09:45

exactly what you keep reminding us

  2049. 1:09:46

about. Like that's what your work is

  2050. 1:09:48

about. Like the best is yet to come.

  2051. 1:09:50

There's so much to look forward to.

  2052. 1:09:53

Like life is to be enjoyed. Life is

  2053. 1:09:55

supposed to be fun. And this is like if

  2054. 1:09:57

we're lucky enough to be doing the stuff

  2055. 1:09:59

that we love and we're lucky to be loved

  2056. 1:10:01

by the people that we love. Like that's

  2057. 1:10:02

it. Like that's what life is about.

  2058. 1:10:04

Yes. And trying new things. You know, a

  2059. 1:10:06

lot of women that have seen this happen

  2060. 1:10:08

for me in my 50s. They're like, "Oh, I

  2061. 1:10:10

can go back to school. Oh, I can go I

  2062. 1:10:12

can become a yoga teacher. I've always

  2063. 1:10:14

wanted to do that or whatever." But it's

  2064. 1:10:15

    never too late.

  2065. 1:10:16

    It never is. It's never

  2066. 1:10:18

keep dreaming. I know that's sappy, but

  2067. 1:10:20

you know, it's good to have something to

  2068. 1:10:22

look forward to. But yes, every stage of

  2069. 1:10:24

children, all of that is wonderful.

  2070. 1:10:27

And then at the very end, right before

  2071. 1:10:29

you die, lift the heaviest weights

  2072. 1:10:30

    you've ever lifted.

  2073. 1:10:32

And drink a bunch of protein shakes and

  2074. 1:10:35

blow up. You know what I'm saying? Your

  2075. 1:10:38

stomach. Only eat ice cream when you are

  2076. 1:10:42

    willing to go to bed.

  2077. 1:10:43

Eat it right on the toilet.

  2078. 1:10:45

And just just eat it right on the toilet

  2079. 1:10:48

    so you're just close by.

  2080. 1:10:51

    That's the truth, honey.

  2081. 1:10:53

Um, what what do you watch, read, where

  2082. 1:10:57

    do you go to laugh?

  2083. 1:10:58

Okay, I have been loving four seasons on

  2084. 1:11:02

    Netflix. I went through that.

  2085. 1:11:04

    Will Forte, Tina Fe.

  2086. 1:11:05

Oh my gosh. So funny. Mango.

  2087. 1:11:07

    Carrie Kenny. Um,

  2088. 1:11:10

    Carrie Kenny Silver.

  2089. 1:11:11

Yes. And her husband worked on my sitcom

  2090. 1:11:14

was on my crew and she came to a couple

  2091. 1:11:16

of episodes. I loved her from 911. Reno

  2092. 1:11:19

    911. So funny.

  2093. 1:11:20

Um, but I got to tell you, Tires on

  2094. 1:11:23

    Netflix just came out.

  2095. 1:11:24

    Shane is so

  2096. 1:11:25

and it is crazy. It is crazy. Nutso

  2097. 1:11:29

    bizarre. Dumb.

  2098. 1:11:32

    I love dumb

  2099. 1:11:33

and I love it. That has killed me. I was

  2100. 1:11:36

watching This isn't funny, but that

  2101. 1:11:38

Canyon Ranch every once in a while I

  2102. 1:11:41

like a good I like a good soap opery.

  2103. 1:11:44

Like they're on the ranch, somebody's

  2104. 1:11:45

    taking their land, somebody's been

  2105. 1:11:47

    murdered.

  2106. 1:11:49

Taylor Sheridan. Do you like um

  2107. 1:11:51

I've watched some of Yellowstone and all

  2108. 1:11:52

that too, but Canyon Ranch is on is it?

  2109. 1:11:55

    No. Ransom Canyon. Ransom Canyon.

  2110. 1:11:59

    Ransom.

  2111. 1:11:59

Ransom Canyon. And what I love about it

  2112. 1:12:02

    is there's there's a couple that are

  2113. 1:12:04

    doing it

  2114. 1:12:05

and she has her gown on and I think they

  2115. 1:12:08

must be doing that for people my age to

  2116. 1:12:10

    have a love story cuz she's they're

  2117. 1:12:12

doing it and she's got a gown on.

  2118. 1:12:14

And that's Minka Kelly. Minka Kelly who

  2119. 1:12:17

is beautiful with that Josh Josh dam

  2120. 1:12:21

    dol

  2121. 1:12:22

they do it she's got a gown on

  2122. 1:12:25

and I just I every once in a while need

  2123. 1:12:27

    a little love story.

  2124. 1:12:28

    Yeah

  2125. 1:12:29

    and with murder.

  2126. 1:12:30

    Uh all right

  2127. 1:12:32

canyon tires perfect. Um Leanne it's so

  2128. 1:12:36

good to have you. Thank you so much for

  2129. 1:12:38

    coming

  2130. 1:12:39

    Amy

  2131. 1:12:40

    you're so great.

  2132. 1:12:43

Thank you Leanne. That was so fun and it

  2133. 1:12:45

was so fun hanging out with you. You're

  2134. 1:12:47

a good hang for sure. And we know we

  2135. 1:12:49

    talked about something very important

  2136. 1:12:51

and in this polar plunge we need to

  2137. 1:12:52

    address it and it is

  2138. 1:12:55

the burden of being blonde and how hard

  2139. 1:12:57

it is to keep that up. And um we spoke a

  2140. 1:13:00

little bit about it but I just want to

  2141. 1:13:01

reiterate what Leanne and I made very

  2142. 1:13:04

clear in this podcast. You need

  2143. 1:13:06

    dimensions.

  2144. 1:13:08

You need different dimensions. and it

  2145. 1:13:11

sounds like Tennessee is the only place

  2146. 1:13:13

to go. So, I just want to give a shout

  2147. 1:13:15

out to all the stylists working hard out

  2148. 1:13:18

there in Tennessee to give um blondes

  2149. 1:13:22

everywhere finally a leg up, you know,

  2150. 1:13:26

because we can't have more fun if our

  2151. 1:13:30

hair isn't right. Thanks, Leanne. Thanks

  2152. 1:13:32

so much for listening this episode and

  2153. 1:13:35

um talk to you soon. Bye.
